Sibling rivalry!! YIKES! LOL, it's been a long time since I had to deal with this! Dreama and Wosie have not really established a meaningful relationship as yet. Dreama has decided that Wosie can be within her comfort zone as long as she doesn't touch her. Yesterday they were sleeping 4 inches away from each other on the bed, and that's the closest they have been. Dreama killed BoBo yesterday. This was Wosie's favorite toy. Dreama grabbed Bobo when Wosie wasn't looking, and immediately ripped him in half, pulled out a clump of stuffing, and a sqeeker before we could get it away from her. Wosie was devastated! (Momentarily...I think she has ADD). Then this morning, they had a tiff over a silky chew bone. They aren't playing, just stealing the toy when the other one is not looking. Dreama has figured out the only way she can keep it to herself is to go hide it so Wosie doesn't know where it is. Any suggestions?? We are off to get Dreama's equipment this morning, and I am assuming we will get her personal toys so she doesn't have to play with Wosie's (I bought her some toys, but she doesn't like them). We will also get some more silky bones. Thanks for any help you can give me! |
Sorry to laugh - but my girls STILL do that to each other - (minus the ripping up stuff) they DO however get the toys squeaking till they break it....but it's pretty normal sounding to me - I think even if Dreama has her own toys - she'll still like Wosies better ... :D My girls both usually pick a favorite only if the OTHER one is playing with it first.... HAVE FUN ! Yorkies are natural Thieves and just love to steal off each other....wait till they start hiding the toys so the other can't play - that's always a fun game :D |
Cali and Maya will fight over the same greenie and will go back and forth with one while the other one sits there. Cali doesn't even eat the greenies she just likes to steal Maya's. I even buy them the same toy and Maya who hasn't played with toys in years will go for Cali's. This has been going on for 5 months. Maya will let Cali lay next to her if Cali isn't jumping on her, but they still spend a great deal of time arguing! Good luck! |
LOL - Chanel is 3-1/2 and steals EVERY Toy that Cheri wants to play with AND has her own toys - she'll try to walk around with 2 toys stuffed in her mouth just so Cheri will bark and talk to get her toy back - Then Cheri does the same thing back to Chanel... HAVE FUN GLAD !! you're in for some laughs with 2 yorkies in the house |
Maya loves to take whatever it is that Deb is playing with. I will always give one of each to them and Maya will take hers....and then take Deb's too. Deb will just bark and bark and Maya will be laying on top of one rawhide and chewing on the other....POOR DEB :) |
My best advise is for you to control the toys. For all dogs, "control" is the way they establish dominance. Whoever has control of food, toys, bed, person, is the head dog. So if you keep the toys in a toy box and make them sit while doling out the toys (one at a time), then you are establishing control and therefore your position as head dog. The reason they run with the toy and hide it is to start piling up. "The one with the most toys, wins!". |

Sounds like everything is going nice and normal :p . She is still so new to the family and wants to establish her place. Hopefully soon she'll be stealing his toys with a smile on her face :D . They are dogs and not polite little children (as if THOSE exist  LOL just kidding!). Hopefully it won't be long before Dreama gives in and becomes best buds with her new adorable little sister. I'm sure she'll be happy to get some "familiar" things. Expect Wosie to be VERY interested in those too! ;) "sibling rivalry" HA HA....welcome to MY World! Cowboy doesn't think ANYONE belongs on my lap but him....the others play fight over the same toy all the time. I guess that is what makes if fun for them. Keep us tuned in....we love hearing how it is going.  |
:lol tears I can buy 10 of the exact same thing. My boys will run and hide in their beds with their's. No problem. But my girls , I have to sometimes break them up an take the toys away. My Molly loves to hide all the toys, then she marches back & forth in front of where she hid them as if to say, they are not hidden here, don't look here. I can sit and watch the interaction between my kids all day long. What a joy they are. |
LOL That's the way it is around here too! It's so much fun watching them, way better than TV!!! We have so many toys around here, but if someone wants one, your going to have to fight Princess to get it. She won't give in!! Mandy & Poncho have learned to play with toys when Princess is taking a nap. But when she wakes up, she puts them right back behind the couch, where Poncho & Mandy can't fit to get them. :) :) :) What a Smarty Pants she is! Poncho & Mandy have rope toys and bones to play with, but if it's soft, Princess will take it away! I think you're in for a lot of laughs, they won't hurt eachother, but they will put a hissy for the toy they want. It's part of their game! Enjoy!!! :D |
My two used to fight over things all the time. Duffy would get something and Jasmine would want it. She sits in front of him and barks and tries to get it away from him. Now Murphy is in the middle of it. They have many toys, but the other night I dropped a big teflon spoon and Jasmine ran and grabbed it off the floor and ran away with it. It was an old one so I just let her have it. She loves to chew and play with that spoon. She is so little, she can't hardly drag it around. Go Figure! Everytime one of the boys go near it she barks and growls and won't let them have it. Of course, just because it is "forbiden" they both want it so bad. They are very entertaining. They remind me of my kids when they were teenagers. |
Aren't they a hoot? :yorkiesar |

My girls still do that same thing...whatever Sailor has Magic wants, even though the only toy she will really play with is her ball, but if Sailor is playing with it Magic immediately wants it and then once she takes it away she walks away from it!! But lately Sailor has been doing the same thing back to Magic, which of course to Magic is the end of the world...LOL!! I would say as long as there is no mean growling going on, it is perfectly normal....my girls have TONS of toys but yet still fight over the same ones all the time!!! Girls will be Girls!!! |
Gee, all this sounds so familiar! Sue has 7 adult Yorkies. Ginger, the oldest and the Mama of two of them, is definitely the boss. You can put down several bones, all exactly alike, she will get one, lay down with it under her chin, or just a few inches in front of her nose and DEFY anyone to take it! If no one pays any attention, she sometimes takes it and moves it closer to one of them, and backs away, looking at them and wanting them to grab it. If they do.......boom, she gets after them. They have learned to ignore her. But they won't even go get one of the many bones that are there for the taking. Usually, Rowdy just goes over and eats them and solves the whole problem. But even 70# Rowdy will not challenge Ginger for her bone!! |
Oh that is funny but just get used to it. In my house whatever one has the other wants. Thats chew bones and toys. |
I would love to have another yorkie, but my husband won't let me. He says that Kobe is so spoiled that he would not like it. He always thinks the age difference would be too big. |
Skittles and Gunner have a love hate realtionship. Gunner has only been with us since Oct, so I know it will take some time, ok maybe yrs before they are best buds. When Skittles shows signs of having enough with Gunner I let her rome the rest of the house. Gunner stays hemmed up in the kitchen and family room unless my hubby is home. We play with them together and also take 1 on 1 time with each of them, so they know we love them the same. I say just give it time and they will both be best buds. Good luck |

Boy does this sound just like my house- Sophie ( who has been seen with up to 4 toys in her mouth ) only wants a toy if another gets it first, then the chase is on, around the furniture and thur the house. She has the advantage as Star is in her last week of pregnancy and doesn't move as fast right now and Sara and Fancy think Sophies game is silly. Of course then Eli and Spencer have to join in and it all starts again, until I need some sanity and take whatever toy they are constantly squeaking away. Of course that only lasts till one makes a trip to the toy box :D |

Dublin loves to steal my reading glasses! When I can't find them I know that he's taken them into his sister cage (why not his own  ) and added a few more tooth marks! |
Lolol Quote:
Thanks, everyone!! I guess I will just let them make their own way with this and not try to intervene unless it comes to teeth and blood! :D You guys are the BEST! :D |

Hey there, friend! It sounds to me like the "honeymoon" is over! Our two are exactly what everyone else is describing. One has it - the other one wants it. At first, we let them play to whatever extent it ended up to be. But then we had to start curtailing it to: "Kiss Kiss - No bite!" It got a little ferocious. When we discovered that Muffie has all these loose teeth in the front, we began wondering if their "roughness" with the mouths could have caused the teeth loosening! ?? We'll never know, will we? Now, we're trying to "tame" them down! |
When it comes to toys of any sort if Lowie (our girl) has it, brand, make or model doesn't matter (lol), Chowie (our boy) HAS to have it. It cracks us up b/c he will totally be engrossed in something else but as soon as she has it he wants in on the action... lol :D I just think it's part of play, not being left out, and their rank in the pack. |
Oh Glad that sounds like my house, and mine do rip things apart!! But when ever its Lilly that has the toy or goodie, Petey sits there and crys!! Its very annoying!! I'm hoping they will grow out of it and I hope your two will too! Sorry I wasn't any help!! |
