| matese | 10-23-2025 01:36 PM | Congrats on your puppy. I have an adopted boy. He was 2 1/2 years old when I adopted him. His priv. owner had him pee pad trained I trained him to potty out doors. All my puppies were 8 week old females. They were 100% house broken at 7 months old.
Do NOT train outdoors until puppy has had all their vaccines which is usually 5 to 6 months old.
indoors use pee pads, feed puppy then place on the pad telling it to pee-pee n poo-poo. If puppy makes on the pad give it high praise, clap your hands, make a big happy fuss, give a treat, dogs love to please their humans. If puppy pees on the floor, sop it up with the pee pad place the pad in its designated area then put puppy on the pad saying pee-pee on the pad. Same method if puppy poops on the floor pick the poop up and put it on the pad. Do not praise for making on the floor, only praise and treat reward when puppy uses the paid.
A schedule is a must in potty training. Animals have built in clocks they know what time they eat and what time they go out to potty. In the beginning it's going to be a hit n miss. Feed the puppy the same time every morning and every night. 30 minutes after they eat harness puppy and walk it. To urinate I call it pee-pee, to defecate i call it poo-poo. What ever you call it tell the puppy pee-pee and poo-poo. If you have a yard give the pee-pee, poo-poo command so puppy knows why he's outside, it's not play time, it's potty time. If puppy makes indoors before the 30 minutes take him out anyway, he needs to know what time he will be taken out. Male/female, it's all about schedule. |
