Hello everyone Hello everyone, I am new here and would like to introduce myself. I am Murnah (which is the first 3 letters of Murphy and the last three letters of Hannah. They were my previous fur babies. My pom murphy passed in 2019 and hannah my chow chow passed in 2023). I am in my 60's and have always had dogs in my life. The last nearly 2 yrs since Hannah passed is the longest I have gone without a dog. Last summer I decided it was time to start looking for a new fur baby. Though I wasn't sold on any one breed nor was I in a hurry I was kinda leaning toward either a frenchie, another pom or a yorkie. I was searching craigs list a few times a week and even replied to a few ads. Then one day last October I went on Craigs list and the top ad was for an 8wk old pure bred Yorkie puppy free to a good home. They wanted her to go to a home without young kids or other dogs and were giving her away for free because she has a bum back leg that may require surgery. They told me they normally sell their puppies for $3500.00 because of their European bloodline. Of couse I didn't care about any of that, I just want a baby to love and she is just as perfect even with her limp. I have since had x-rays done on her leg. The vet said it looks like it was twisted at the knee when she was born. After consuting with another vet and a surgeon they all said their is no surgery that will fix it. They are going to leave it be for now but if it poses a problem in her adult years they my amputate. She is now 6months old and her name is Phoebe. Thank you all, I am looking foward to getting to know you all. |
Welcome to YT Phoebe is adorable! :) |
Welcome to YT and congrats on your first yorkie. Phoebe is an adorable name. Once you have been owned by a Yorkie you will be hooked on the breed. Please share a picture of your Phoebe with us, we love pictures. |

You are right about the name, it's not common and suits a yorkie perfectly. Phoebe is adorable. I hope down the road her leg doesn't get worse. Thank you for sharing Phoebes story. |
So I did get her leg xray'd in February. Apparently it is not a genetic defect but rather a birth defect. Her leg got twisted in the womb at the knee joint. Two vets and a surgeon all agree there is no benefit to surgery. They just suggested keeping an eye on her pain level and if it appears to be hurting her or if it hinders her ability to get around in the future they may amputate it. So far she doesn't seem to be in any pain and she gets around very well. Last night after a bath she got the "zoomies" and was tearing around the house the same as any four legged pups also when we visit cousin benny (my sisters pug) its always her tiring him out. |

You're right matese, she rarely gets the zoomies when we are home and its just her and me but when she is with her cousins they do like to tear it up however I do need to keep her from running around too much especially as I took her to a new vet last week to have her re-examined and this vet had the foresight to check her good hind leg to make sure it is in good condition and she found that Phoebe has a luxatating patella that tends to pop out of place. She (the vet) said on a scale of 1 to 4 she is currantly at a 2 but if she moves to a 3 she will need surgery on that leg. I am hoping it doesn't come to that. |
