To or Not Change Her Name Hello everyone! I am getting an adult yorkie that has been a showdog and has come with paperwork. She is being retired from breeding. Her name's on her certificates, awards and records but I really wanted to rename her. The breeder has "strongly suggest" I do not rename her but I do not intend on showing her, she will be a pet dog. Will there be any issues in renaming her and do you recommend I do not do so? Would it matter if her paperwork has a different name? Thank you! |
I would think that calling her by the name she is used to would be helpful at first, as she gets used to you and a new place. But once she is settled in you could call her anything else. I have several nicknames for each of my dogs, she may or may not respond to different names, especially if you have other dogs in the house. Good luck, and have fun. |
Congrats on your new family addition. I agree with MauiGirl, you can give her a nickname, nothing needs to be changed on paper. My pup has many nicknames, I hardly call him by his given name, he's the only pup I have. I don't know if there will be consequences from the breeder if you change her name on her paper work. Why would you even want to change that. Hopefully one of YT breeders will see your post and can offer up advise. As a heads up, YT does not have many breeders anymore, so do not be disappointed if one does not reply. Have fun with your new girl. |
I guess being an adult dog I would probably not change the name. But as was already mentioned, you could give her a nickname or petname that you could start to use little by little over time so that she can get used to it. But really I think it is completely your choice. |
