Bee Sting Question Hi YTers! My 14 lb. Yorkie/Maltese mix boy was limping and holding hi left front paw up. He wouldn't let us look at it. It seemed painful. I was outside with him and I called him to come in. He was fine running down the yard but when he got inside he was limping and holding his paw close to his side. I guessed he got a bee sting and gave him 1/4 Benedryl tablet. He has calmed dow a lot and has been sleeping since 6:30 pm. We couldn't see anything wrong with his paw. He got up and had a mushy poop on the potty pad awhile ago. We just took him outside and he is walking on the paw but slightly limping but he lets us hold his paw. My question is should we give him another 1/4 Benedryl tablet? If so, how long after the first one? He had another partial runny poop and just threw up yellow liquid just now. He was very nervous and panting a lot at first so I was think it is from nerves. He did not eat any dinner this evening. He is comfortably resting on my lap now. Thanks for any help. Sorry for typos. |
I called the emergency vet. Since he had no swelling, no hives, we didn't find a stinger, his gums are pink, etc, they think he might have a muscle injury and probably not an emergency. He has a vet appointment at 3:30. |
When one of mine got stung by a European hornet we could very much see where it was on his paw and put a baking soda paste on it for 10 minutes and then washed it off and it was fine. If you couldn't find the sting spot it might have been a pulled muscle more then a sting. |
Thank you Taylor.💕 The vet said the vomiting and diarrhea suggests that it might have been a bee sting. I was reading online that his symptoms might indicate that he is allerhic to bee stings. He got 4 shots at the vet and he is feeling his normal self today. I am so relieved. |

OMG you must have been scared to death. I know I would have been. When I called my vet they were closing and referred me to the ER vet or make an appointment for one week later. Thank goodness I remembered we gave our previous pup Benadryl and that knocked Toby out for several hours. I could tell that this poor pup was terrified. The next day I called the vet again and they had an opening. I hope I never have to go through this again. My other pup snaps at bees and tries to eat them. A few days ago I actually found a dead bee on my bed. I thought she would eventually get stung. But no. |
