New puppy!! Got a newer puppy 3 days ago. Named him Huck for Huckleberry Finn. Birthday 7/26/22 Sweetest, kindest, mellowest pup! Both his parents are silver and he is starting to turn already. We were told that when he is ready he should have his puppy coat shaved off so that his silky coat can come in. We never did anything like that with Izzy but she was far older when we got her. Does anyone have any input on this. Combing him out is a labor for sure. Thanks! |
I know nothing about need for grooming puppies. Just wanted to say congratulations on Huck! Love the name and he sounds like a real peach. |
You don’t have to do that but their adult coat is usually easier to deal with. All my yorkies I had as puppies ended up matting and had to be shaved anyway. I keep my yorkies in a puppy cut so they get their puppy hair shaved at their first grooming anyway. |
Grats on the new fur baby |
Congratulations! Agree with Taylor on the coat. Up to you, but keep a close eye for mats close to the skin. Puppy hair does tangle easily. Just brush frequently and be sure you are getting to the skin....otherwise it will mat underneath. |
Congrats on the new pup |
Hi Just ended up getting my 3 month 2 lb Yorkie 2 weeks ago. She is tiny and getting mats. She is skiddish around noise or anyone except me. What to do? I have given her a bath and used detangle with no luck. Do not want to pull at mats will hurt her. |

Izzys Dad...Congrats on your new fur baby. |
Thank you for the info on getting a comb under mat. Shaving questionable at this time. It will scare her for sure. Thank you again. Appreciate any help. |

Kaylee now 7 months. I would actually cut some out the mats when sleeping in my lap. A vet was able to remove the rest when spade. All is good now and was able to keep most of her soft shiny hair. To have a groomer come to house and works with her. Took her to a regular groomer to get hair out of eyes as she had help of another groomer. Only took a few minutes. Think it will are her a while to actually to get to grooming, but we’re good for now. |
Note that the above person is spamming. Perhaps not intentional but it should not be here. I reported it yesterday, but maybe they haven't seen it yet. I would avoid that website that is selling puppies. |
