Buying an older puppy Hello! Question about getting a not so puppy but still a puppy, puppy. How do you find from someone reputable? Like 6 months and up? I feel like it’s not typical but my mom wants one that is still a puppy but that is 6 months or older and mostly past the puppy madness stage. Lol She prefers to buy over a rescue cause she knows where it’s coming from. I’m NOT asking if anyone here is selling. Asking if breeders selling a 6 month old dog is a thing. If so, best way to find them. Thanks! |
Probably not many. There are MANY reputable rescues who sometimes know the history of their pups. Sorry not to see this sooner. Good luck in your search |
Yorkies stay puppies longer so 6 months is not much different than 12 weeks honestly. My youngest just turned 2 and she is still very much like a puppy except potty trained lol. My youngest boy is now 4 but he didn't start really calming down until 3 and even now can still get a bit hyper when playing. There are show breeders that will keep puppies longer to make sure they are show quality and if they aren't then they will rehome them. I got Ollie as an older puppy close to 6 months from a terrible breeder who couldn't get rid of him (her words) because he was bigger and unfortunately she never exposed him to anything so he was very timid and shy and is still that way but is a bit better so getting an older puppy is not always best either. |
Hey! You can start by searching for breeders in your area online and reading reviews. Actually, it's been a really long time since your last reply here, so I hope you've already found your puppy. If you've not, ask for recommendations from your local vet or pet store. Another option is to check out dog rescue organizations. They have older puppies available for adoption. Just make sure to do your research and ask the right questions when you visit a breeder or rescue. Btw, you can also find helpful advice on dogs breeders' websites and blogs. Anyway, I'm waiting for your updates! |
