What can it be? So we got mri, spinal tap and other tests back on the rescue pup. ALL tests negative. The neurologist didn't give any answers as she wanted to call our hometown vet tonight before the clinic closed. She says she will call me tomorrow. Anyone know of anyone with a pup having similar results but the pup still have memingoencephalitis symptoms? |
Well I guess bit could always be Meningoencephalitis of unknown origin (MUO)... the neurologist will call back tomorrow. |
How is the coughing, I do hope it's not her trachea. She's so young to have so many medical issues poor baby. In another thread you wrote vet doesn't think its kennel cough, could be the trachea, but suggested to keep her separated from your other animals for a few days. How is lil Mr Flint handling all this, new comer getting so much attention. |

Encephalitis cases are ususlly divided into two basic groups: those caused by various infectious agents (bacteria, viruses, parasites, etc) and those that are idiopathic (ie, the cause is unknown). Since all the tests were negative, it looks like your pup’s case falls into the idiopathic category, which is actually the more common one. So no one can really answer the “what can it be” question, unfortunately, although it’s suspected that many cases are somehow related to problems in the immune system. The “meningo” part of the diagnosis, by the way, just describes where in the pup’s brain the problem seems to be, and “meningo” is the broadest term, meaning it seems to be in all of her brain tissues, not just one localized area. Which is also common for cases of encephalitis. All you can do is treat her symptoms and hope for the best. At least you’re giving her love and comfort, which she didn’t have before. |

My letter to Mommy Hi my name of CBB2 is a nickname for my real name Chester Baxter Bailey. I was born on 6/4/08. My mommy was with me for 13 1/2 years until I died on December 29, 2021. I was at the Vet two weeks prior for my rabies shot and then I died right next to my mommy as she slept. She found me in the morning and got me ready for the ride to the aquamation funeral home. I now sit on the fire place in my red heart surrounded by the toys and stuff my mommy bought me. Before the vet I was a happy Yorkie, my mommy and my big brother used to take such good care of me, that's why I loved them so much and I received all the love back. I had a good life and will always remember all the happy times I had with my family and will look down upon them, especially my mom to make sure she is doing well. We made a pact that if I die, mommy should not be sad and don't cry, but I know she has been crying still after seven months. She refuses to replace me and all she has is a fish. I will always be thinking about her and I know she thinks about me. Goodbye everyone and hope all of you are safe. A special goodbye to my mommy I love you with all my heart and will never forget you. And to my big brother who stayed with me all the time while mommy went to work, I will miss you and I love you with all my heart Chester Baxter Bailey CBB2:aimeeyork:love: |

Oh my....just seeing these posts. I have not had a chance to fully read ALL but I just wanted to post this thought: I see that so far her neuro tests are showing nothing. Have they considered doing bile acid testing? Sometimes a liver shunt will behave just like this and the liver enzymes and other blood levels still could be normal. It's a simple, inexpensive test. I will read more of your posts later today.... |

They did a whole bunch of tests which they said did not show liver shunt. So they said that was ruled out. Unfortunately she isn't really much better. She can look around now but doesn't really move a d her legs barely hold her up most of the time. Her seizures have lessened though.. I took her to the vet today and they were pretty heart broken about the lack of improvement. |

I do have to say her symptoms don't look like that of hepatic encephalitis/liver shunt. But if there is a chance why not. |

Symptoms can vary . I had one that did not even have symptoms. It often has a lot to do with the size of the shunt. I am so sorry the news is so bad for her and pray an answer is found. |
