Yorkie constant humping 8ys old Hello All - I have a male 8yr old yorkie. He is alreadu neutered. The issue I am having now is that he constantly humps and the red part of his penis get stuck out and doesn't go back in under his skin. I spoke to the vet and she advised to wash it. However, it happens all the time. One time he peed blood because he got penis hairs stuck in there. My question have you guys heard of anything in terms of a shot, or treatment that can be given to slow his testosterone. Now, I have to constantly look at his penis and then wash it when I see it doesn't go back in. It's quite a nuisance as I have to do this 3-4 times a day. He use to hump before but now it's kinda insane. Please advise |
Humping is a sign of dominance. Why can't you remove the things he's humping. I read using petroleum jelly such as Vaseline helps ease the penis back into the sheath, of course you have to help getting the penis back in. His penis coming out 3 to 4 times a day can lead to infection. Have you spoken to your vet about such a shot for this. I have a male neutered 11 year old, thankfully this has never happened. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in. |
Washing is a terrible idea and going to dry it out you need to use lubrication like Vaseline. Why in the world a Vet would tell you to wash it is beyond me. In a neutered male it is not a testosterone issue but a dominance or this is fun issue. Take away what he is humping. |
Thanks All. Actually the vet said NOT to use Jelly because it'll get stuck as I need to gently wash his area with a something that is "water soluble" and petroleum jelly is "not water soluble". I forgot what cream or solution she told me to use. Anyway, what he humps is the side of his bed. I guess I'll try to find one with any side sticking up. But that'll be hard to find. Perhaps a flat bed with no corner or side. If anyone, knows of one please let me know. |

Regardless of what type of bed, if he humps it tell him LEAVE IT in a very firm voice. It has now become a habit that is going to be hard to get under control because you can't watch him 24/7. When you do see him, you and everyone in your household that sees him all must be consistent in using FIRM word LEAVE IT. Everyone must use the same word. You can do this :) |
Thank you all so much. To the vet Tech that posted that's what my vet said to get KY Jelly that is not petroleum jelly. I will start to repremand him and will get a flat bed. Thanks so much for the support! |
Please get the KY jelly. If his penis is exposed for 10 minutes or more the drier it gets, the jelly will help ease it back into his sheath. |
