bringing home a new puppy 3 Attachment(s) Hi YT, hope you and your furbabies are all good. So i will be getting a brother to Tinkerbell . He is currently 6 weeks old (44days to be exact) and weights 480 grams, 1lb5oz. I have read here that it is preferable to bring home your puppy at 12weeks of age as they are still learning from their mothers... The owners (not breeders) wanted me to take him now, i found he is way too small, so i refused, negotiated with them and got him food and asked to keep him till he is10 weeks old. My question is what if your bringing him at 10 weeks to a home with other dogs. Won't he learn from them how to dog? Here is he, im thinking of naming him Pan |
Puppies learn from mom and litter mates bite inhibition, when playing to rough is unacceptable. There are many states in the USA where it is illegal to sell a puppy under 8 weeks old. 6 weeks and weighing only 1lb 5oz is dangerous for the puppy. 10 weeks is a lot better than 6 weeks. To answer your question. Yes he will learn to bite with gentle mouth from other dogs, but those dogs will be more aggressive towards training a wee lil baby what is not acceptable. Do not leave this puppy unsupervised with your other dogs until they are all 100 % socialized with each other, you could end up with a seriously injured puppy. Congratulations on your new fur baby. Pan is a cute name for a cutie puppy. |
Congrats he is a cutie. Good job on keeping him with the mom at least till 10 weeks. I just brought a puppy home at 10 weeks and she is doing great. I have a senior who is teaching her manners. Was afraid that may not go well. But thankful it is. I do lock her separate when I go to work. |
Anyone who allows their dog to breed is a breeder. Sadly with this breeder pushing the puppy so young and not knowing what is best I’m sure did not do any genetic and health testing so you need to be prepared you could end up with a puppy that has genetic issues and there are many in yorkies and they are very expensive. Even leaving at 10 weeks and even coming to a home with other dogs your puppy will still likely have bite inhibition issues and more then likely potty training issues. I have seen puppies that are to young also end up with separation anxiety. |

is 1 lb too small for a 6week old? his mother is 5.7lbs and father 4.8lbs. |

most yorkies were imported from Ukrain. So even though the situation isnt optimal, finding a yorkie puppy born in a home to parents that are well taken care off, is unfortunatly considered a good deal. i do hope the puppy will be from a healthy line, fingers crossed. thanks for the heads up |

Even with gentle, sweet dogs they can lose their patience with a nipping lil baby. These yorkie babies are wild and full of energy, hang off fur of older dogs. Puppies should never be unsupervised, the mischief they can get into can be fatal. Puppies should not have free roam of home, must be watched as if you had a 2 year old toddler in your house. |

Senior girl with new puppy now Hello. I’m Julie. My babies are Gracie..almost 12 medical service dog now retired. New baby is Henry, 12 week old Yorkie. Henry has been with us 2 weeks and is kennel training. Potty training and puppy training is not for the faint of heart right😜 Gracie does not want to go anywhere much any more.she doesn’t really play. After nearly 2years of consideration now she has Henry. Although she’s not fully accepting of it yet. She’s timid and tends to recoil from the puppy energy. Gracie is 10 lbs. Henry is 3 lbs and stated to not be over 5 lbs. Any pointers welcome. I’m crate training to potty train. No resistance. Lots of play intervals and time for two babies to bond. Hope everyone is well…. Julie |
Congratulations on your new puppy. Gracie will come around and accept Henry, it just takes time since she's been the only baby. They soon will be BFF. Make sure Gracie has a safe haven where she can get away from high energy nippy Henry. |
