Yorkie Panting!!?? Hello All - I have a 6yr old male yorkie who all of a sudden started panting in the middle of the night. I am a light sleeper and wkae up to his panting. It has happended 3x already. He seems nervous, walking back and forth. I read on line and the only I ca think of is anxiety. He is an anxious dog and gets excited here and there but generally is very playful and not aggressive. Has anyone had this happen or can suggest anything? |
Is he able to see out of the bedroom window at night. I ask this because my boy is not an anxious boy, he's 10 years old. I live in the country, one level house. At night the wild critters come out on the the lawn. Although the curtains are closed Cody can still see them. I assume he hears them and that wakes him up, then the pacing back and fourth on the bed begins, followed by panting because whatever is out there he wants it. If your pup can see out of the window something may be catching his attention causing this reaction like my boy. Just a thought. |
Panting can be from anxiety, but also can be from discomfort. Another thing it could be is Cushings. I would consult with a vet and have blood work done if it has not been done recently. |
@matese...I live in NYC on a high floor and he has never been able to see out the windows |
Panting My Jojo will shiver and shake and pant every so often. He is a nervous yorkie. Loud noises Mbother him. I will put his harness on and hold it close to me. Sooner or later he settles down. If there's fireworks he shakes. Its anxiety. Yet it's not every night. He is 9yrs. Hope you fi d out why your dog is shaking. |
I second that you need this checked out by the vet because it could be pain or something like Cushings. |

Panting Thank you so much for your advice! I will call the vet and get him in. The yorkie friends on this site have so much info to offer and I am thankful for each of you that help! |
