As Taylor said, you need to be very careful. There are a lot of breeders out there advertising “Yorkies” in all kinds of exotic colors, including merle, and those exotic colored dogs are not pure bred. I’ve seen ads, for instance, where the breeder lists some of his/her dogs as being AKC registered, but then lists pups in all kinds of exotic colors that are not AKC registered. That’s a big red flag. Not that there’s anything inherently wrong with selling or buying a mixed breed dog ... but it shouldn’t be at pure bred — or “exotic” — prices and the seller should be honest about the pup’s genetics.
As with any pup, you should have the option of taking the baby to your vet for a thorough check up before the sale becomes final. The vet should be able to tell you whether there are any concerns or issues with the eyes / eye color. There are some breeds of dogs where blue eyes are normal and can be perfectly normal. But there are also abnormal/non healthy eye issues that can make the eyes appear blue. |
