Quirks of my dog Wondering if anybody's fur babies does something similar. Curious if it is a dog thing or just something unique to my two babies. Thumper and Bella are very bonded. They do not like being separated. Thumper only tolerates Bella playing with him and jumping on him. They do lick each other in the face and on their coat for grooming. However, what I find unusual and kind of cute is that every time Bella goes to pee on the pee pad Thumper will chase her once she is done and lick her privates to make sure she is clean. He does this about 98% of the time she always pees. It is very cute to watch. He is extremely protective of her and wants to make sure she is nice and clean down there. I have never really seen this with other dogs just cats. I was wondering if anyone else noticed this with their babies who have more than one dog. |
That’s pretty normal behavior among dogs. It’s not really an attempt to clean her, though. It’s a part of canine social communication. Smell and taste are big parts of their social interaction. |
When I had my pack of 3 girls they were very bonded, but they never did that. I agree with Bluebells, it's part of canine communication, just like when two strange dogs meet, they smell each others butts this is the way dogs gathering information and say hello to other dogs. |
Yes, it's true that there's nothing strange about it, because among dogs it's just as normal as among humans to exchange opinions. It's their special way of communicating that sets dogs apart from other animals. Speaking of which, it's worth noting that some canine quirks can be a wake-up call for a pet and its owner. For example, my daughter always laughed about her dog crying after eating, until we discovered that it was a possible disorder in her system. Your dogs, on the other hand, are doing just fine, so it's safe to watch and be amused |
