Hello from the Deep South I'm new, so let me introduce myself. I am in my late 60's and have been an animal advocate, activist and rescuer since childhood (REALLY!). I have worked with different rescues and done quite a bit on my own. I have assisted the local shelter with feral kittens, sick and orphan kittens and trapped a number of ferals and had them spayed/neutered, etc and released on my farm. If it has fur and 4 legs (or less) - they find me or I find them and I'll help them. Most of mine are rescues, I even have a rescued mini horse. We have lived on our small horse farm for 35 years and I've been breeding and training for 40 years. Stood two stallions until they aged out and my niche has been breeding, pedigrees, matching up stallions/mares, foaling, starting and schooling the youngsters. Horses have been my passion since I could speak. I currently have 4 German Shepherds, which are my breed of choice - love the German working dogs and herding dogs, a Yorkie and a number of cats. I am slowing down due to a beat up body from all I've put it through - I was a licensed trainer and exercise rider at the track also. I have a couple of auto-immune issues which are forcing me to scale back. Hope all of you are well! Thanks for allowing me to join. :) |
Welcome to YT, happy to have you abroad. You have quite a history with animals. |

Wow! What a great path to follow! I, too, am in my 60's, used to have German Shepherds, and owned just-for-fun horses. My Yorkie, Piper, is my joy and life now. Look forward hearing more from you (y'all....love southern accents!). |
I have bred Thoroughbreds and warmbloods for 40 years. My vet used to laugh when I'd call after a foal was born because I would be so excited it sounded like I was speaking in tongues - so he would say "ok, you have a new foal". He also told me I was too emotional to make it a business, LOL - keen sense of the obvious, but it has been a business. Although I have been very discriminating and selective about who I sold a horse to - if it wasn't a good match I would not sell. Same with my rescues. Our little Yorkie is a larger size than many and full of himself. My husband loves them but has taken on a number of officer positions in associations related to his career, so he is travelling alot. I have my horses which keep me outside alot - so we have regrettably decided to sell this puppy to a home that can give him the time he needs. He can't go to the barn like my Shepherds and so we are just not available for him as much as he deserves. I always try hard to do what is in the animal's best interest and at this time in our lives, this is the right thing to do. I will put him on the appropriate thread when I figure it out. |

The nature of a yorkie is very demanding in needing lots of attention. My guy absolutely hates when I am on my laptop. If he can't get my attention with his whining he will throw himself across the keyboard lol, that gets my attention lol. |
