I, too, reel Piper in and invariably pick her up before dog is even close. Whether or not large dog is aggressive, if owner doesn't have control, an exuberant big dog could damage Piper by simply stepping on her or the like...I've said it a lot, we cannot be too careful with our Yorkies! |
We walk Bella twice a day for about 30 minutes to the park and back, during spring, summer and fall. She's 2+ years old and doesn't like the cold weather. We avoid large dogs and cross the street if we need to. Usually the owner of large dogs go in another direction first. Bella never barks at dogs, however, sometimes other small dogs bark at her so we walk away. If a small dog is friendly, they wag their tail and if Bella wags her tail too, we meet for a moment, like quick socialization, so they can smell each other in a friendly way, otherwise we move on. Also, this winter I'm hoping to test to see if she will try to walk on snow the first time and I've got winter boots for her and a warm coat ready. Her first 2 winters she was bored inside the house and we feel the difference and energy in her when she goes out. She loves it! I hope she will like winter. But it's up to her to decide, lol. |
Lol My boy doesn’t like the snow to go out and go potty 😂 |

Dexter has really been enjoying the cooler weather on our morning walks now. I was worried walking him when it was hot out of him getting over heated |
Piper and I both enjoy the cooler weather for walking; Piper is wound for sound when we first set off, for sure. She seems to have a lot more energy overall--and a bigger appetite to match! Just love seeing her so lively and engaged! Are your leaves changing color, yet? We're getting quite a bit of color here in Lake G. Pats for your little gent! |
We’ve had a real dry later summer and early fall here. I don’t know how much pretty fall foliage we will have here. I’m seeing some bushes getting color, the trees not so much. I will know in a week or so. We had a early frost the other night. That’ll speed things up. |
I walk Emma around our subdivision in the early AM and her last potty break for the evening. Its about 15 minutes. I've tried having her walk with me 2 miles and the girl was pooped so I leave her at home for walks longer than 30 minutes. |
We usually cover about two miles in 30 minutes. Depends on how often dexter has to sniff things 😂 |

OMG. I am so jealous is lake Geneva warm in summer? |
Do Yorkies even like swimming? Dexter does want me to put him in the pool if he gets hot though |

Awh sounds wonderful. My lake Ontario never gets anywhere near warm. But on hot days we do go in! Usually I take the dogs to Lake Kelso. We can swim and hike and picnic there! Also there are some parts that are pretty, but being a city gal I am nowhere near them. In fact right now I am trying to find my dogs winter gear lol 😁 |

If yorkies are introduced to water / swimming at a early age they may love it. |
Dexter sure doesn’t like a bath |

Piper doesn't mind a bath at all; she loves (trying) to drink the warm 'bath' water. I bought her a lime green life vest that fits her like a glove; I could carry her like a purse when she's in it. But even that doesn't change her opinion of swimming...swimming is for ducks and fish, thank you very much!! |
I walk with my 2 yorkies...and I have an automatic opening umbrella with me.... |
