When you got a puppy! When you got a puppy, did the puppy cry or shake for a couple days until he/she got settled down at your home? Tell me, share your experiences about first a couple days with your yorkie. |
Rowdy stood up and shook just a little bit on the ride home (only about 3 miles) but then he just settled right in at our house. He did not cry or shake or anything at home. He just was pretty quiet and looked around the room, explored and played a little. That first night we put him in his crate with a blanket that the breeder gave us that had been in the puppy pen. He cried for maybe 2 minutes - just whimpered - and then he went to sleep and slept for 5 hours. He yelped when he needed to go out and I took him outside, he did his business and then went back in the crate for 2 more hours, till I got up. He did exceptionally well I think. I did have trouble getting him to eat. He was only 7 weeks old (yes, I know - too young - I didn't know any better). I had to soften his dry food with warm water and give him cottage cheese. I also put kayro syrup on his food to get him to eat. I gave him nutro wet food and toddler (human) chicken sticks. I also gave him nutracal 3 times per day. After a few days, he started crying more when I put him in the crate at night - I think he just wanted to be with us - but I wanted him in the crate till I was sure he wouldn't pee the bed. He also started crying more when he would get up in the middle of the night when I would put him back to bed. I had to be strong. My husband is retired and home most of the day, but when we had to be gone for a few hours, we put him in an x-pen with a soft comfy bed and some papers and he did fine. We also confined him to our den for the first few weeks, because it has concrete floors and he never cried when we would go into the other part of the house and shut the den door. He didn't have and doesn't have separation anxiety - we are very grateful. I think he was/is a relatively "easy" yorkie. Good luck with your new baby, when the time comes! |
When I brought Cali home at 9 weeks she was so tiny but she never shook and came in like she owned the place. She wanted to play with my 9 year old pom who wanted nothing to do with her unfortunately. We kept her in a dog play pen in teh living room with a wee wee pad and a bed and blanket. The first night she whined for a couple of minutes so my husband moved the playpen into my bedroom and she went right to sleep. She would wake up about 2 in the morning and I would put her in a small plastic crate with her blankets and put it on the pillow next to me and she would go right back to sleep. When she was about 4 months old I put her in my bed and she slept all night and has ever since. |
Chester was very clingy. He cried if I walked out of the room. Gracie couldn't care less where I was and Rebel was so busy tearing crap up like he was on crack! |
Same thing here, Gizmo was never scared.... we picked him up @ Canyon Lake ,Tx which is about 5 hrs from here, the moment he came with us we went out to eat, shopping, site seeing and he was A-okay.... drove home 5 1/2 hrs with no motion sickness or anything came inside the house and was fine.... Maddy walked in like she owned the place, giving orders to Gizmo, but she did get car sick....after that everything was ok, doesn't get sick anymore but then again we are all EVERYWHERE together so she is used to it! |

My Yorkie was very calm on the drive home, no shaking, just some drooling. I thought I was going to be lucky and have a easy puppy. But oh boy as I wrong, from the time she got home that evening, it hasnt been the same since. I have this vivid memory of her at midnight, running around in circles and playing nonstop. Then falling asleep on my chest. I was so excited I didnt get much sleep that night. |
Tigger was rambunctious when we first bought him home. or rather when my boyfriend brought him home (I was at work so I had a little surprise waiting for me at home) From the video's he was really rambuntious. He was hopping everywhere, biting Chris' feet (boyfriends friend from the air force, who was staying with us), sleeping and barking at himself in the mirrors that line our bedroom hallway to the bathroom. So adorable. That night he slept with us (Tigger, not Chris) and woke me up at 4:30 in the morning to go potty. Then it was straight back to bed. He's slept with us ever since. OH and he fell asleep laying across my collorbone. He still does sometimes. |
Diezel did not want to be put down and was shaking a little. A few hours after we got home my friend came over with her yorkie who was a little bigger and that was like Deizel was a totally different puppy! |
Mine only cried if they couldn't see me |
