Windsor Oak Farm? Has anyone heard of or had experience with Windsor Oak Farm located in Maryland? As a former owner of two unrelated Yorkies (Missy 1/28/2003-9/11/2017 & Gigi 7/9/2006-3/4/2020), we are looking to maybe getting another one. Missy was 5lbs & Gigi was 7lbs, so we are looking to stay under 10lbs. If anyone has any experience with them it would greatly appreciated. This forum has always helped & serviced us well. We are now located in Northern Virginia. Thank you. |
I’m not familiar with that breeder, so I hope someone can help you. I do want to mention, in case you’re not aware, that there are some big puppy mills in Virginia, so please do your research carefully. |
Just looking at their website, I'd say a big fat no. They have 20+ breeds/mixes. I am not against responsibly bred mixed breeds in certain instances (sports or service work) but this is clearly just a puppy mill. Have you checked this list? That is a prime example of a puppy mill! They also can bee seen as even worse for all the mixes. I also believe this might be where Penny’s old owner got her from. Penny has ACA papers which is not a reputable registry so by using those all there dogs could be mixes and that’s a hefty price for a mix. Penny also is 16 pounds, floppy ears and looks like a non standard yorkie. I think you would even have better luck going to the AKC’s website and searching for a breeder. Just please don’t support that place. |
I also checked out their website, I agree, they have to many mixed puppies, you would never know if you had a pure yorkie or a mix, unless you want a mix. In either case, reads like a puppy mill to me. |
I haven't looked at the website but never known ANY any reputable, respected breeder to specialize in breeding over one, rarely two breeds, consistent with health and temperament and AKC breed specifications w/out being considered some iteration of a puppy mill, which only breeds dogs as often as possible for one thing - more money, rather than to better the breed. Any breeder trying to breed more breeds than two perforce has far too many dogs than they can treat as pets, with daily, loving, personal/family time and no to little meaningful interaction/socialization time for each dog and pup. Multiple breeds screams puppy mill from the housetops! Give Windsor Oak Farm a pass, do not keep them in operation with your dollars, deal with and support only a truly respectable breeder dedicated to one thing: improving the breed. |
