My dog is shunning his clean beds I am a first time dog owner, though I wouldn’t say new anymore, I still have lots to learn. I have 4 different beds and mats around the house for my dog and while that has helped with wear and tear they have gotten very grotty and I finally decided they had to be deep cleaned.. (probably should have done this long ago, but when we had a dog growing up it didnt even have a bed so...) Anyway my dog is refusing the cleaned beds now. He goes to the spots, sniffs them and walks away then retreats to his third preference or lays on the floor (if not on the sofa to be near me). Do I need to get new beds now that do not have the detergent smell or is this fixable?? (I tried putting my clothes or one of his blankets with his smell on it over the beds... he just removed them, sniffed the beds underneath and walked away). |

Maybe put treats in them or give him treats for getting in them. I have never had this issue. Mine always jump to be the first in the clean bed. |

Clever but also frustrating! :D:confused: |
These little guys have minds of their own. Unfortunately, sometimes they win an we lose. Sigh...... |
I am going to go along with Bluebells thoughts of airing them outdoors since you tried treats, your clothing and his blankie. My guy has no problems with freshly washed beds. |
I have never had a problem with any of mine shunning their cleaned beds...in fact we have the opposite. In my multi-dog household, there is a race to the beds when they are put back in place, and the winner gets to roll around and scent-mark every bed! lol |
