what to do with bored yorkie - ideas for being stuck indoors I would say Duchess is hyper energetic meaning she needs her daily walks. If she doesn't get them, he demeanor changes. she becomes bored and I would say even a little depressed about not being able to go outside. Going outside is her fix.....even if just a half mile walk. If we don't go outside for several days, you can see how her attitude changes. So I am trying to come up with activities I can do with her if my area reaches a point where we can't go outside for any reason other than medical or to stock up on food. When I was sick for two weeks, Duchess stayed by my side the entire time and didn't even whine to go outside but I think she knew I was sick and was being on her best behavior. What kinds of activities do you do with your fur babies if you are stuck indoors for prolong periods of time? I was thinking I will try some new training. I need something that will stimulate her to keep her mind off of going outside. I hate seeing her moping around. |
When Piccolo was young, she loved when I threw something down the steps and she would get it. Usually a treat. Then back up to do it again and again. It certainly wore her out. |
Trick training, dog puzzles anything that can really make their mind have to work. |
Hide and seek - either with a treat or yourself. My girls aren't into games, they would rather snuggle. However, years ago I taught our Boxer (RIP, I love you, Boo) to play the guessing game using three cups and one treat. It didn't take very long for her to catch on and we spent hours of interactive fun. |
Tibbe loved to work so going through the process of teaching him a new skill always kept him deeply satisfied afterward. Always went outside afterward for a good sniff about and came in for a long, long nap. He loved working as a team, learning how to do what I asked him to do for my praise and a little "paycheck" of a kibble treat. |

Duchess loves hide and seek. I hide treats around for her all the time. I haven't done that in awhile, thanks for reminding me. This will be a new twist to her hide and seek. |

I wish Duchess played fetch. She doesn't really play with toys but my cat thinks she's a dog. She plays fetch and plays with all the toys. When my cat wants to play fetch, she brings her stuff mouse and I don't see it, she gently taps me on my arm until I see it and throw it. That's how my cats works off her energy Duchess tends to chase the cat more if she doesn't get outside. Basically the cat is her toy:p. But in between playing with the cat, she gets bored. I have to create some puzzle games for her. She loves trying to figure things out. |
Jackson is so bored. He gets stir crazy too. We have a long hallway that we play fetch in indoors. We also do trick training - practice old and learn new. Food puzzles - we like our Kong Wobbler but you can DIY some with toilet paper rolls etc. We luckily have a yard, not fenced, but I have a long line so he can run a bit. |
