New 9 week old puppy! Hi! We got our Rocky last week at 8 weeks and he’s doing great. Just curious what everyone feeding schedule was at that age- free feed or scheduled? Also how much? Currently he’s eating Almost 1/2 cup a day. I give him a 1/4 a cup in the morning and he grazes that and then around 1 put out another 1/4 a cup which sometimes he eats most sometimes not. Also what puppy food is the best? Currently he’s on Nutro and doing great but plan on changing in a few weeks. |
CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW PUPPY! We free fed/feed Katy since the day she came home. |
Puppies aren't supposed to leave mom until 12 weeks so you need to let him free feed and monitor it to make sure he is eating and has no symptoms of hypoglycemia. Unless the food is making him sick or something he needs to stay on it for a couple of months and then you can look into changing it. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk, and congratulations on your new little one! :yorkietal |
Hi and welcome to YT! You could moisten the kibble to help insure he’s getting enough water. Yorkie puppies can get very busy and forget to eat and drink. And I would get some PMR for him to supplement his diet for 4 more weeks, till he turns 12 weeks old. The bag of puppy food has instructions for feeding... age and amount. Puppies need to eat 3-4 times a day, depending on age. Divide the recommended daily amount by the number of feedings to get the amount per feeding. |
Welcome to YT and congrats on your new baby boy. I suggest keeping him on the food he is eating for now. He is going threw many changes right now, new humans, home, smells, ppl, sounds. Changing his food soon could upset his stomach. Have fun with your puppy, they grow so fast. Keep us updated on how things are going for lil Rocky and his new home. |
