CET Enzymatic Dental Chews I have a 4 lb yorkie who loves to chew. Vet recommended these CET dental chews but said to only use about 1 a week since they have about 40 calories. How often do you give your yorkies dental chews and how much? It took her a day to work through the chew. Is 1 time a week good enough for teeth? She does let me brush her teeth with the cloth finger brush and vet dental toothpaste every other day. Also, what else can you give them to satisfy the urge to chew? I got some medium size nylabones and they are ok. My sister has yorkies and gives them the hard marrow bone with no filling and they chew all day on them, but my vet told me no. |
Most chews that last a long time are to hard and will break teeth. Bully sticks, antlers, and himalayan chews are all way to hard. Rawhide is extremely dangerous. The edible nylabones and non edible are good. My mom recently bought bulls tails and they aren’t to bad. Cow ears can be ok you just don’t want ones sprayed with stuff on them. There are chews called no hide that are good. PetSmart now has a no rawhide section and some of those are pretty good. I’m not thrilled with smart bones because they get kinda gummy and seem to upset all 4 of my pups tummies. |
I just use Nylabone and we watch her chew them. We never leave her alone chewing on these. At nite we crawl in bed and we watch tv Kinder chews on her Nylabone. Susan |
I would not give dental chews to any small dog. Their intestines are too narrow should a piece break off, and the chew will absorb liquids from the intestines causing it to swell and can cause a blockage, which requires a surgery to have removed. |
