Split them up? So I am going on a trip for 3 days. A great, dog savvy friend has offered to watch them but I’m thinking of splitting them up. The now one year old puppy is a bit of a handful and can play rough at times with people and my girl Molli (who is now 10). She has a toddler the same age as mine and he’s had big dogs but it’s been awhile since she (or I) have had a puppy. I have a nice pet sitter I can leave the puppy with so he will be fine. I wonder if splitting them up is the right thing to do though. Molli would probably appreciate the break and the extra attention. Thoughts? |
I would split them up, reason being, you have a frisky wee lil puppy, and then there is the toddler. My concern is the toddler trying to pick up frisky puppy and possibly dropping him or, frisky puppy rough playing, nipping the toddler. IMO Molly is best suited to stay with the toddler gal. It's only for 3 days, I would not worry about splitting them up. |
If they aren’t massively bonded and it can get rough then you might want to do that. Mine have been together probably longer then yours and are so bonded splitting them up would really effect them even Callie who is my oldie. Although me leaving in general would shut my boys down completely. |

Sounds like good advice, Matese. :) |

EXACTLY! Great Advise! |
Yeah they are not bonded. They are just co-existing right now. I mostly don’t want to ask that of a friend, a puppy is a lot to take on. |
A puppy is like having a toddler, they must be watched / supervised at all times, yes, a lot of work when you have a human toddler that must be watched also. |
