WHERE WAS THIS CHILD'S MOTHER!????? OR ADULT PERSON!?????? <grins, THAT I was yelling!> Wildlife can be bold, but that child had to approach the animal! So sad!


THIS is why I hate to see wildlife as pets on f/b. Then stupid people that see those photos/videos think that all wildlife is kind and friendly....."just approach them slowly with a nice voice.". Or that a person can just raise any old animal....from a baby....and have a nice pet.



This sort of thing REALLY bothers me. I have loved animals since the day I was born....but my dad INSTILLED in me.....LEAVE THE WILD ANIMALS ALONE!

I found the article online, it was in Chicago, but there have been many stories of coyote attacks in upstate NY. It does not mention anything about who the child was with. I took a screen shot of the video where the coyote was trotting on the sidewalk. Its a bit blurry because it was a video, but you can see the coyote. Bazaar!!!!!

Coyote attacks 5-year-old outside nature museum in Chicago
A 5-year-old boy was taken to the hospital Wednesday after a coyote bit him several times outside a nature museum in Lincoln Park, CBS Chicago reports. Police said the boy was near the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum when a coyote bit him “multiple times” around 4 p.m.
A Fire Department spokesman said the boy was bitten on the head and was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital to be treated. His condition was stable, according to police.
After the attack, the coyote took off running north. CBS Chicago reported the coyote was still on the loose Wednesday night. Police drove squad cars along the running paths in the park of Lincoln Park with their spotlights shining. One officer said over police radio that he planned to reach out to the nearby Lincoln Park Zoo to find out if anyone on staff there would ensnare the coyote. Meanwhile, Chicago Animal Care and Control officials confirmed two animal control officers were responding to the incident.

About half an hour before the attack, Twitter user Xime Mendez sent CBS Chicago a video of a limping coyote walking down the sidewalk just blocks from the museum.
In recent days, several coyotes have been spotted walking the streets of Chicago. While attacks on people are extremely rare, dogs have been targets.
A little more than a week ago in Old Town, a 5-pound toy poodle puppy naked Ki-Ki barely survived a coyote mauling. The night before, a Schnauzer named Missy was attacked in the Cabrini Rowhouses.
Another coyote spent more than four hours in a yard near North and Clybourn avenues and was caught on video howling. It was one of at least 10 reports of coyotes phoned into Chicago Animal Care and Control in the past week.
Experts say coyotes have found ways to adapt to city life because there is food for them in the city such as rodents.
“In general, coyotes are adapting to cities. They’re doing better and better over time as they learn how to make use of these urban landscapes that we’ve created,” said Seth Magle of the Lincoln Park Zoo’s Urban Wildlife Institute. “I feel confident in saying I think that their numbers are generally on the upswing.”
The Humane Society advises that if you see a coyote, you should not run or turn your back. You should instead shout or throw something in the coyote’s direction, in what is called hazing.
If the coyote does not respond to hazing, it may have been fed by someone or found trash left out. Use caution, as the coyote could be aggressive.

Just saw an amazing video on a news app showing a 5 yr old rescue cat fighting off 3 coyotes�� in it enclosed yard,until the owners heard the ruckus and came running.
that was one tough kitty!!!��

Yayyyyy for the kitty. I was surprised to read coyotes in Chicago are under the protection law. Here in Pennsylvania if you see one you can shoot it but, I live in the country, if there's one in my yard it can be shot. I am sure laws for town and residential areas are different.

MO is the same. When it comes to coyotes, it is like war, Kill or Domestic Animals Killed. The average person in today's world does not understand this.

It seems even our DNR is protecting them. They are all over the trails and there is NO warning. This is mating season. Prolly many dens. For a child, pet - to come up upon with a very angry mommy

I was a member of a closed group in munster - telling sharing as much as I could. Last evening one member decided to invite all for a Coyote Party. And it went on mocking - poking fun - and fine. No problem there. I did my part. I said what has NOT been said about these creatures...and deleted facebook all together. I am done.

I am also NOT staying here. My lease is up soon, I found a few properties far from huge plots of open trees/etc, country clubs for sale and all overgrown, and...TRAILS. The trails are quite a distance, but wide open areas. Not overgrown with litter, shrubs, invasive grass that is four feet high.

It's really a shame that these animals are living so close to humans. No fault of theirs, every year they lose more of their natural habitat due to building homes and malls, giving them less grounds for hunting and more encounters with humans. Hazing fails when everyone is not doing it, hazing causes coyotes to be afraid of humans but if only a few are using this method coyotes will not fear humans. There are more and more cases of coyote sightings in urban areas because food is readily available for them. It's very sad that ppl can't use trails in fear of encountering coyotes especially if you have a wee little dog, any dog is at risk of being attack for that matter. Is there a park with flat ground, no brush or hilly area where there are more ppl that you can take your pup to and stay away from the trails.

Im sure this was replied to concerning the Chicago attack on young boy - but the child in this event that was on trail at the museum in Lincoln Park Zoo property of chicago ***Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum was with a caretaker - which probably means a nanny - Chicago has many nannies :) - was just walking the trail. Boom coyote gets him. Two men helped get the coyote off of his head. The female caretaker was striking, yelling for help etc.

There are three or four URBAN COYOTE RESEARCH groups on the property. At this Nature Museum that is FULL AWARE of coyotes on the property.

They should check for dens, alert trail walkers, etc. Just to be safe. They claim "the child surprised the coyote." Yep. All the kid's fault. Then you see workers checking AFTER THE ATTACK FOR DENS!! WHAT? why not be sure of safety BEFORE CHILD IS HARMED>

The coyote that was witnessed in many locations/neighborhoods that had a limp was caught and saved. this was the one that attacked the child. They checked the DNA. Is removal of head necessary to determine rabies? This is hush hush but the animal is still alive. They trapped it. AND:

THE GROUP NAMED THE COYOTE MERCY.

At one time someone shot at the vicious predator - probably attacking a pet - and a bb was in shoulder. Now, it is that unknown person's fault. The poor animal that can rip you to shreds in a heartbeat was scared, lonely, hungry and had a booboo.

Chicago names it. It is going to a shelter.

I have a feeling the "research group" chipped this thing when it was a pup. A cute little fuzzy wuzzy honey baby that now is grown and very powerful and won't think twice when ripping the flesh off your leashed pet - or biting YOU to get to your pet!

Done a lot of research on these. There is NO safe way TO AVOID a RABID coyote. NONE. Shake your boxes of rocks, throw the rocks - you'll just make them more determined to take you down. They circle. Scent downwind. One watches you while others come up from behind. At least this what I have learned from Coyote Hunter forums/sites/etc. They are hired due to the high number of livestock kills - especially the new livestock that are being born...they take off with cords, etc. Costs the farmers alot.

It is incredible the lengths towns go to in order to hush any info. My town has zip. Although the principal at one lutheran school claims "they" more than one - are seen in the school yard during school hours. There is NO fencing. It is a big wide area. Reminds me of the video of the coyote that took off in a softball field toward a little girl with her mom pushing a stroller in NJ? Attacked the child for no reason. Knocked down the stroller. A cop came and sat on the thing until guns arrived to kill it.

Be careful out there. They have litters of four to five and MORE born in Apr/May. How many all over usa are going to release these juveniles to hunt in late Summer/Fall? TO then MATE and start over. :eek:

There is NO predator of this animal in our nw Indiana Town of Munster. NONE. They are NOT protected. NO NEED. The coyote/wolf/dog mixes are thriving in numbers. THRIVING and MULTIPLYING RIGHT NOW. :(

No PROGRAM to deal either. Not for schools, school bus stops, trails...They won\'t even clean up the overgrown trees, etc!! No signs. No warnings. Liability? No heads up to NEVER TURN AND RUN AWAY. :confused:

That is alot of new hunters. Killers. Most of the town in unaware.
