German Yorkshire Terrier ??? I met a woman today who showed me a picture of her furbaby - a German Yorkie. Has anyone heard of this breed? |
When I google it Biewer Terrier is what comes up. Could it have been a Biewer? There is no such breed as a German Yorkie. Maybe it was a Yorkie from Germany? |
No, she said she got it as a German Yorkie. Looked a little like a Biewer (sp). I also googled German Yorkie but didn't get anything. She showed me a picture. A small white dog with black on tail and near head. |
Just did some more googling and found that the German Yorkie is also known as a Biewer Yorkie. |

I'm gonna go with a Biewer Terrier, they originated in Germany, the breed was named after the breeder Werner Biewer, Biewer is pronounced Beeva. I hate to say this but they look like Parti Yorkies. Biewer color placement to be white body, they are to have a black saddle and black on certain places of the face. They were breed for more of a companion dog with the prey drive bred out of it. They are beautiful babies. |
Just discovered via google that they are recognized as a breed by the AKC. |
lilgidget....You are correct, I believe they were just accepted in 2017 or 2018, the Biewer Terrier can now he shown under the class of toy breeds. It was a long and hard fight to get the AKC to accept this dog as a separate new breed. They are still rare in the states meaning you do not see a lot of them, many ppl are not aware of this breed. I do see there are breeders breeding them, in fact, I believe we have two breeders on YT. |
They are SO cute. Looks like they are about the same size as a standard Yorkie, 4-8 lbs. Perfect size.:) |

I enjoy the Westminster show and all the breeds, it helps ppl looking for a dog to see all the breeds out there. I am hoping to see the Biewer Terrier in 2020's show. The breed needs exposure to become popular. And yes, they are pricey. |
Love my Gidget and wouldn't trade her for ANY other breed. To me, she's perfect just the way she is. I enjoy watching the Westminster Dog Show especially the toy breeds. Yes, the Biewers are VERY pricey. Don't know that I would want to pay that much for a fairly new breed. Oh, well, to each his own. |
