Opinions please I need opinions. I have a doggy door on my bedroom so Callie has access to go potty and get water at night. Well Callie has been wanting back in my bedroom during the day to go get in one of the dog beds in there and sleep. She has never done this before and it concerns me. I generally close the doggy door during the day because before Penny was potty trained she would go in there to go potty and it’s just habit now. My room has like no sunlight that comes in and I keep it pretty cool in there. Otherwise Callie is acting fine. Should I let her go in there when she wants or keep her from going in there except at bed time? |
I know how on top of things you are regarding Callie's general health issues, and how often she is looked at by your vet. Unless you have a reason to suspect that there is a specific physical issue to be concerned about, I would allow her to have some "quiet time" to herself if that is what she wishes. Beau will be 13 in a few weeks, and he still participates in play with his two younger brothers a few days a week. Many days, however, he chooses to lie in one of his fuzzy dog beds and sleep the day away in the sun. That has been our experience, over the years, when our past dogs have been in their final years. They have all been content to be out of the general action of a multi-member household... but free to re-join at will. Trust your instincts if you see it as a problem, but nothing sounds alarming to me. BTW, as a near 70-year-old, I appreciate an occasional "down day" myself! :D |

I would let her go in also, maybe she just wants some quiet time. If it's to cold in your room she will come out. I am sure you know this but I am going to tell it anyway lol. If a dog is curled nose touching tail making a complete circle that is the way they keep themselves warm. If you see her sleeping that way its because she is cold, nose to tail keeps their body heat sealed thus keeping them warm ;) |

Yep kind of sounds like she might want some alone time or just to be in a favorite place. She is the older dog as I recall. I tend to cater to the things my dog really likes to do if I can. |
