Aging Buddy, our 15yr old is showing signs of his life coming to and end. We all know how painful and the heartache of this time in their life, My ? is at what point do we say goodbye. He is sleeping more eating less along with old age issue ie. blind, hearing loss and wobbling when he walks. He doesn't seem to be in pain. we've used cbd oil for whatever reasons just to see is it helps' Each day passes with the vision of him slowly giving up. When is enough enough. |
As hard as it is you have to look at his quality of life and come to that decision on your own. No one can really make the decision for you. My prayers are with you because I know its not easy. |
Does he know you and look forward to your touch/voice/attention? |
If he's not in pain, if he's eating and drinking I would not let him go. These little seniors do sleep a lot and even if he's blind and deaf is not a reason to make this horrid decision. The times when he isn't sleeping spend with him cuddling, petting, he feels your love even if he can't see you he knows you are there. Have you spoken to your vet about this. If not I would. I had no choice but to let my girl go at 17 yo. She slept most of the day, she was blind, deaf, had incontinence and early stages of dementia. When she was awake I would play with her, cuddle her spent quality time with her until she tired out and back to sleep she would go. Her appetite was declining but she still ate until one day she didn't. There was no choice then. Please talk to your vet. |
I am so sorry you are in situation. It is gut wrenching. When we were in the same place with our elderly boxer, Boo, our vet game us these words of wisdom. "Listen to Boo, she will tell you when it's time. " We did and in her own way, she told us and we let her go. Our vet came to our home and we had a peaceful and heartbreaking farewell. |
I think if a dog acts unhappy, no real continuing zest for life except during cuddles, loving sessions, for a couple of weeks, it is time if the vet sees no way for improvement. Who wants a sad, unhappy little dog when our love can help them find comfort and peace? Life, a painful, confusing, unhappy, life is not living for a dog when they can no longer live the joyful, bouncy, ever happy life they always have. When my dog struggles in most ways just to get through his day, I’ll let him go because I adore him. |
