Royal Canin GI Hi All, I have recently switched my 9 year old Millie to the wet Royal Canin low fat GI from the dry as she has such a sensitive stomach that it seems to cause her less upset. She was throwing up bile when her stomach emptied, no diarrhea and senior blood panel/urinalysis was normal. I am concerned as she has lost about 7 oz recently from 7.9 to 7.2 and she acts like she is starving when I put her food out. I am worried I am not feeding her enough and the guide on the can seems really high to me, so I have been feeding her 1/3 of a cup with a bit of dry kibble twice daily. Any advice on how much of this wet low fat I should be giving her when she acts so hungry? No further GI upset since I switched her to the wet. Thanks! |

Royal Canin Low Fat Moist Dog Food Both my dogs were on this food for many years. I only took them off because my poodle mix developed kidney disease and I needed to switch her food. When they were on the low fat food, I supplemented with things I ate. I have been on a low fat diet and if you were on it, you would lose weight and be starving all the time, also! II think they could probably have each eaten a whole can a day in order to feel satisfied. I just couldn't afford it. Right now my poodle mix eats anything she wants because she is virtually terminal and she will not eat any kind of dog food. My yorkie will eat the Hills GI food occasionally but it is not low fat. He has gained some weight but until my poodle mix passes, he is pretty much getting whatever she is willing to eat. Not sure if he would ever touch the Royal Canin low fat food again. My friend had a cat who was on a diet and developed behavioral problems. She actually hired a therapist for the cat who said the cat was starving! Good luck. |

Royal Canin Low Fat Moist Dog Food You're welcome! I have a gigantic bag of Royal Canin low fat kibble which my yorkie has hardly touched. Your post inspired me to give it another try. He used to like it mixed with a little bit of water. Otherwise, it will go to waste unless my vet will take the opened bag as a gift for their boarders. Both my dogs also like the Hills healthy treats, which are prescription, especially the soft baked, which I cut up. Once my poodle mix is no longer with us, I will try giving my yorkie more dog food and less human food, but with cans of food over $4 apiece, it gets really expensive. Good luck with your baby. |
Jackson did awful on this food. He was put on it after pancreatitis back in Sept last year. He was always acting STARVING... otherwise seemed to do okay for about 2 months. But it was crazy hungry... like he would be crying at his bowl at midnight, 3am, 5am... and this is a dog who would gladly sleep 12 hours overnight. I assumed it was just the pancreatitis. But anyway in December he began having diarrhea. Was not pancreatitis this time. We did every test under the sun, visited an internal med specialist, etc... we tried a hydrolyzed food which he did just as bad on.... finally tried RC moderate calorie PW kibble (fish potato grain free RX food) and it was our miracle food. Got his belly in order along with home cooking of cod and potato etc... but his system just not digest properly on the Gastro, at all. We do a mixture of RC PW kibble and Natural Balance fish and potato right now mixed with Weruva wet food (the low fat ones for pancreatitis- Grandma's chicken soup and Cirque de le Mer tuna flavor) and is he thriving. He is almost 11 and has endless energy, in good shape, good poops, etc! |
