12-Pound Yorkshire Terrier Survives After Being Snatched by Bald Eagle 2 Attachment(s) I just saw this on FB......Please stay vigilante when you are out with your pup, as you see, these birds size does not matter.....I don't know of the out come of this baby... The 7-months-old Yorkie is fighting for his life after being attacked by a bald eagle Atlanta, Georgia- A bald eagle swooped down and snatched up the beloved 12-pound dog on June 25, carrying him about 300 feet before dropping him, leaving the dog’s owner screaming in horror. Tiny dog miraculously survived the rough descent and went home on Wednesday after undergoing surgery, but wounds from the eagle’s sharp talons became badly infected. He returned to the hospital Thursday and has been there ever since. |
Wow!! What a horrifying experience for both of you. That's a another reason to always have our little ones on a leash. And it's important for us to be aware of our surroundings. Have heard lately of coyotes roaming neighborhoods. |
The threat is very much real but I wonder about the authenticity of this particular picture and article? I seem to recall a video that reminded me of that screen shot years ago that was actually fake/photoshopped. The dog in the picture with the eagle doesn't even look like the dog in the photos on the right? I DID see and hear about this one though which was very real: https://www.insideedition.com/media/...r-yorkie-50928 |
Unfortunately our house is less than a mile from a bald eagle nest. Between that, the hawks and buzzards, and alligators in the lake, my boys are never allowed outside of our screened lanai. The birds are even brazen enough to circle the sky above our pool when they are on the pool deck! |
We have several Eagles nests within a few miles of our house. Even had them at the back of our three acres eating on a dead deer. This is why I like that we have lots of small wildlife around our yard because they are more likely to go for the rabbits and stuff over my pups. Our fenced in part of the yard is also to small for them to swoop in and out. But I still watch. |

We have a hawk problem in our area and had an ugly (and expensive) situation several years ago when she was attacked. Keep these babies safe. The young are active and the parents are trying to feed them so they are always looking for pray:eek: |
