Schnauzer Comedo Syndrome
 
Sylvia (14 pound Yorkiepoo) has developed this -- have any other Yorkies or Yorkiepoos developed this? It's not responding to any kind of treatment. The vet said to bathe her every 5 to 6 days, but I think that might be a little excessive. I'm pretty sure it is not food related.



Thoughts?

Are you sure that’s what your vet said she has? My research shows that only Schnauzer’s can get it. Maybe you are dealing with environmental allergies and possible skin infection. Food allergies are rare so I too doubt it’s food related. When Callie as a brake out they have suggested I bathe her up to two times a week to once a week so that doesn’t sound off. I think maybe you might want to look at going to a dermatologist.

These small skin bumps develop when a pore, the skin’s opening for each hair, becomes clogged with skin oils and debris. Oh ok because the two I looked it up described something different and said it was just something Schnauzers get.

I have a pup I bathe twice/week because he has a history of skin infections. Every 5 - 6 days is not excessive at all. Did he perhaps suggest a medicated shampoo? That could help ..

I haven't heard about this before, but when Mike had different kind of skin issues a few months back, the vet suggested Virbac Sebolytic shampoo. Unfortunately we couldn't find it here, but I read many great reviews. It is supposed to remove excess oil off the skin and help exfoliate it. Maybe you can ask your vet. Hope that Sylvia will get better soon!

Thanks for all the responses. The vet "sold" me a shampoo called DermaBenSS. She (and her groomer) are pretty sure of the diagnosis, but I've been thinking about getting a second opinion, because after 2 rounds of antibiotics and weekly baths, there is zero improvement. Thank goodness it's not an itchy issue.

Maybe just get a referral to a dermatologist. Those shampoos usually work but you do probably need to do more than once/week on the baths.

I would go to a dermatologist they specialize that stuff
