Shaking Is it common for yorkies to shake when they want attention? Thumper has a habit of shaking his whole body when he is not happy. When I pick him up and pet him he seems to calm down. I don't think it is anything medically wrong with him it just makes me wonder. I started noticing it about 1.5 years ago when we were on a road trip and he was not happy to be in the back seat. I had to pull the car over and sit with him until he calmed down. Bella is the opposite and does not shake at all. |
I've seen many dogs tremble or shake when very excited, wanting attention or wanting something with all their heart. Usually affects of excess adrenaline rush. Imagine a large surge of adrenaline from disappointment could do the same thing. Did it just start or has he always done it? |
I don’t think it’s normal at least my four don’t do it. Mine only shake if they are scared or cold. He may be bothered by something and scared when he does it. |
Golly, I thought most Yorkies trembled from emotion. My sister had one that did. My Jilly and Tibbe both shake from strong emotions - vet always says it's adrenaline rush as most Yorkies are such strong-willed little divas. |

My little divas always play me like I'm their very own prized Stradivarius and keep me happily enslaved BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. Any mid- or larger dogs I've had or fostered never acted/emoted like my Yorkies have and Tibbe still shamelessly does as it always works for him so successfully. |
I agree I think it is mostly emotion. He is not much of a barker but shakes where Bella barks more to get attention |
My Yorkies have been all emotion, over-confidence & huge dose of 'terrierness' persistence. Combine that with a little toot in attitude and size - the tallest of the 3, Tibbe - that's not over 9" tall at the withers and you get a huge picture of total adorableness. They simply think they rule the world and when they want something, they want it now, lol. Reason I love this breed - no back down. |
Yep. It's been my experience with these little manipulators that they tend to tremble at stressful times. Like . . . when they don't want to be brushed . . . if you say the word "bath" . . . oh certainly if there is thunder and they need their Mommy real badddd! My daughter's little Maddie does it too but she just want's to sit on whatever I'm using as my blanket. She then starts barking at me at 6 a.m. so I will feed her. Oh that little girl never does that at home but when she's at Grandma's she is soooo bossy! But I love them so much. |

I remember her being cold when I got her in her car seat and I wished I had video'd it. She tends to growl or bark at random things at times when in the car. She was doing a soft growl but was shivering, so it made a really funny sound lol like a "brrr" shaky growl. When she's seeing her groomer (that's she's had her whole life) she gets very excited and does the shakes as well as happy cries (or when I'm parking and she thinks she's getting out). She only gets the "bad shakes" when at the vet or when some people/strangers approach her. |
