Harness Recommendations In April, we will be taking our 3 yorkies on an almost 9 hour car ride. As I begin to plan, I realize that frequent stops will be necessary for everyone's sanity! ;) I would love to hear your recommendations for a harness that is soft and easy. Zoey is 3 pounds, Riley is 7 pounds, and Gracie is 6 pounds. Thanks in advance! lpt |
Foxypups I can't speak highly enough about the custom silk harnesses that I purchased for my three from Cindy Hice (Chattiesmom on YT)! See can be found on Etsy under the store name "Foxypups". We travel at least twice per year between our home in Orlando to upstate NY and Pittsburgh to visit our grandkids, and the car trips with our three can be a real challenge. Tyrone, our parti, has a full length coat, and he does not tangle in this harness. The best part is, try though they might, that none of them slip a leg out during the ride. Cindy makes these harnesses custom sized, and she is a pleasure to work with to make sure that each dog is fitted for safety and comfort. You will not be disappointed, and your furkids will be safe and secure...what a relief! :) |
The best harness ever is the buddy belt! It puts no pressure on the trachea and is so easy to put on and off. They last the life time of the dog, at least my oldest girls has. I love these harnesses soooo much. You can buy them at funnyfur.com or go to buddy belts site and that’s buddy-belts.com. Can’t go wrong with a buddy belt. |
I second the Buddy Belt - they are awesome and so cool looking!! |
+ for buddy belt. I also recently switched to a harness with very similar design to buddy belt and it's the best. After trying two other ones I'm definitely sticking to this since I can see it doesn't press on the neck when Mike is pulling on walks. |

1 Attachment(s) I love our Puppia harnesses - they are our go to! |
I always liked the look of the Puppia but never could get a good fit - I think it might be because calimismso small. This might be a good time to mention on those long car trips that unsecured pups - just like children - become little missiles flying through car is there is an accident or sudden stop. Or, dogs end up loose on the highway alone etc., so keep those pups secure while driving:D |

We've tried multiple others and I like some of the other harnesses as well but we ALWAYS wind up going back to Puppia as our "go to". I appreciate the different styles. Lola, my cockapoo, has giant ears so the "over the head" one is a lot harder to slip on (where as Jackson's just slides on super fast, he lifts one paw, then we snap shut, I can do it one handed lol)... with Lola, I prefer the step-in Puppia OR the Rite Fit one (adjustable neck) so I don't have to slide it over her head. |

The other styles are sized differently - like he wears a large in the step-in style. I really really want to like the Buddy Belt. I always want to try again and get another. But I don't like how it fits so far up on his back, if that makes sense. :( Here is 1 we had that I sold as an example. See how when he holds his neck up, it like... scrunches oddly? Whereas when he was leaning over, it looked fine. I couldn't get a good fit. The 5 was too small and the 6 was too big. |

The fact that the silk harnesses do fine when they get wet is a plus over the leather harness. ....and Cali will always find any body of water that exists:D (I do soak them when I first get them) |
Add me to the list of Buddy Belt fans! I have a vegan size 2 that I would be willing to send you for free. It's in almost new condition. The size 2 may fit your 6 lb baby well. I may even be willing to part with a size 3 in used but good condition that Kaji left behind. He had several BB's and I don't think baby JakJak will grow into them. No promiseson the size 3 though. Kaji's loss is still pretty fresh and I may or may not be ready to part with his things. PM me and we'll see if we can arrange something. |
