It’s low enough where the company if buying from a vet will generally pay for treatment if there is proof you bought it and used it every month. Heart worms are scary, I thought that before taking my classes and they got even more so after that. It takes months generally for the micro flara to develop into full worms and the meds killing the full worms are what would block the heart up. Technically heart worm meds are medicine that kill the micro flara and that keeps them from becoming worms. It’s very unlikely a dog on the meds will get heart worms if it’s given every month but the test helps insure that plus if your getting the regular blood work anyway it’s just good to check. |
Our older pup, a Cairn Terrier, has been on heart worm meds her whole life but tested positive when she was five. The vet contacted the manufacturer and they paid for her treatments, which were hard on her. I would not want to have that happen again. She was on Heartguard at the time. My new Yorkie, Hope, hasn’t started her preventative yet. Curious what the vet will put her on. My Cairn now takes shots every six months. Hope is now four months old and goes for her third visit with the doctor tomorrow! Such a sweetie pie! |
