I fed my 4 Wellness Small Breed (Healthy Weight) for many years, and liked the small kibble. When I was unable to get it several times, I decided to try Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrior Food. They absolutely love it, kibbles are small and the formula is specifically for what Yorkies need. Their coats are improved, appetite is great (they always finish it, where they used to leave half of the Wellness), and they just seem healthier. I'm sticking with it, and get it delivered from Amazon. Just wanted to share my experience in case anyone is interested. |
Whenever possible, I buy from local independently owned stores. I have a wonderful locally owned pet shop. The store does not "sell" dogs and cats but they do heavily support local adoptions. Friendly, knowledgeable staff are always willing to answer question. They introduced us to Grandma Mae's Country Naturals. The store we buy from is a wonderful local business full of friendly knowledgeable staff. |
The dog food saga just seems to never go away does it:D We don’t have a choice since Cali had the one and only pancreatitis bout several years ago and her lab work stays very good since she is on the Royal Canin GI low fat, but I did give her the Hills low fat as treats but have changed that now. I have decided that Royal Canin has not had a recall that I can ever remember so I will just stick with them and the success we have had. It is not very exciting food but if I throw in some canned food with it from time to time she keeps eating it. My new little rescue is on the Royal Canin Mini kibble and has gone from 1.27 pounds when I got her to 4 pounds not with a really cute little round tummy. With almost no teeth the minis seem to work well for her and she needed the calories. |

I feel ya, the petsmart near where I live stopped selling the grain-free Wellness Trufood for small breed. My girl gets yeasty if I don't make her main food, grain-free. So switched to Solid Gold's Mighty Mini "turkey and veggies" (grain-free). It actually looks similar to Wellness's Toy Breed kibble but slightly larger and of course, no grains. My little Kimchi's mouth is small, so trying to find small kibble that fits her needs is a little tricky X.x but so far, so good. |
We got a coffee grinder to use for dog treats. Not too expensive and in short bursts on a small amount it does pretty well. Since I also grind my coffee, on occasion, I have two grinders, clearly marked. |
Dog food My yorkies are Off hills rx id food. They eat Lifes Abundance dry and Fromm turkey and pumpkin wet food. Both excellent foods. You have to order Lifes Abundance on line. Breeders of yorkies use this food. A friend told me about it. My yorkies like both of thesel foods! Their coats are so nice! |

I put her on Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin about... 5 months ago? with pretty good results as well but she would still itch more than I'd like. Her poop has been great though. I have noticed itching is less when I feed her more of the RC so I may just start feeding it full time once our last bag of PPP is gone. It IS a lot cheaper though so I don't know! |

Good news after months of waiting the small breed Wellness Limited addition is now back on the market. So excited. I just ordered Bella her food. 😀 |
Update on my Kimchi and the Solid Gold's Mighty Mini. Had to change back to Wellness and got the toy breed formula (though not grain free, it works alot better for her and she's had it before). It's the Wellness line that has kibble small enough for her aside from the Trufoods small breed. Core was the suggest replacement but she won't really eat it cause the kibble is larger >< I was so sad they stop making Trufoods, because it wasn't popular enough. It was perfect for her ; ; She developed hemorrhaging, diarrhea, vomiting and intestinal infection after eating Solid Gold for a couple of weeks >_< She's doing so much better now (granted after a hefty vet visit), but I'll never stray from Wellness as the main meal for her again, unless necessary or I'm cooking it myself. |
