Fat Yorkie after neutering? Okay, so I've always heard that male dogs gain weight after they've been neutered. I had a chihuahua that I neutered, but I did it when he was a puppy, so I really don't know if he would have been any smaller otherwise. Monkey is 2 1/2 years old. He's getting neutered on Wednesday (which scares me to death since losing Maddie under anestesia is still such a fresh wound for me). Has anyone neutered an adult Yorkie? Did he get fat afterwards? Is there something I can do to prevent him from gaining weight? |
Garry Bob , the first son of Venus have been neutered at 10 months old , he weighted 4 pounds , now he is 2 years old and never gained an ounce . |
from what i've read, dogs that are neutered at adulthood do not gain weight as a result of neutering. dogs that are neutered before 6 months can grow to be a little big than expected because testosterone tells the body when to stop growing and without it, growth can continue a little longer than expected hence resulting in a slightly bigger male. |
I honestly believe that's a myth. :) Miko didn't gain any weight after he got neutered and he was 1 yr old :) |

I have seen some female's gain weight after being spayed. But as for male's I have not ever seen that happen. I'm sure it is possible, but probably rare. Every dog is different.. Good luck! I will say a prayer for a swift recovery! |
Gabby gained weight after getting altered. We had her altered the day she turned 6 months old and she just kept growing and growing and has stopped at 16 pounds. The vet has had her on a couple of diets but to no avail, she has not lost the weight. So I have a very happy, healthy, "fat" baby and I wouldn't have her any other way:) |

That makes sense. Whatever the outcome, I just want him to be a happy boy and I want him to be nice to Lil Maddie when she gets to wanting to play. He can get as big as a house for all I care! He sure would be a lot harder to carry around though! LOL :D |
Here are two different websites that might help you on this topic. My personal opinion is that dogs will gain weight, just like humans if humans don't exercise or cut back on food or the fat content. http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/CCAB/manage.htm http://www.vetinfo.com/dneuter.html |
My male did gain a little bit of weight like 2 lbs I think but he was only 7 months and still growing. |
Neither mac or mellie gained any weight after being altered. |
I think Laila has gained 1/2 pound since her spay, but I waited until almost 11 months to spay her. |
Deb and Maya are going to be spayed on Wednesday too. I am so nervous about them being put under !!! Can someone tell me what to expect when I bring them home on Thursday? They dont normally go in their kennels...they are in the pen...together...will this still be ok? Or should I seperate them? I worry about them hurting each other...but also worry about keeping them apart...they love each other so much! Any words of encouragement or advice would be appreciated! |
no gain My daughter has a yorkie that she had neutered and he didn't gain an ounce. Maybe it depends on the dog??? |
