I think every dog is going to be different. CAN a person reinforce a behavior by coddling etc? YES. But to me, it sounds like you know him very well. There is no reason to let a dog suffer with anxiety etc if there is an easy solution, i.e. picking up.
Jackson, on the other hand, is the kind of dog who is made worse by being picked up. He does NOT enjoy being "coddled" or "babied" and it makes him feel MORE vulnerable and scared and like there is something to be scared of. Again, every dog is different.
I think continuing your socialization and training classes and doing some individually with him is a great idea to continue boosting his confidence. :) | That’s kinda how Callie is. I’m pretty sure Ollie’s breeder did nothing to socialize them and since he was 5 months when we got him it has been a bit trickier. |
