My 23 week puppy has been in daycare since he was 16 weeks with a day or so a week with me at work inbetween (no including weekends with me). Daycare for him is either with a single person and her older yorkie that he loves like his own big brother or with another sitter who keeps up to two other dogs at the same time, not always the same dogs.
I have been working on his training and decided to get a behaviourist to help me help me because I am pretty clueless beyond youtube. While interviewing them, one mentioned to me that having my little one in daycare could have a detrimental impact on our relationship because he would become too interested in being with other dogs and therefore not listen to me when other dogs were around (e.g. not coming when called in the park, or running off).
For anyone who has an older dog who goes to daycare or spends a lot of time other dogs that are not their own, have you found this to be the case? Do you find that your yorkie is less interested in you / doesn’t listen reliably when other dogs are around? |
