Missed you guys!
 

Hello everyone, I have been MIA from YorkieTalk for almost 3 years, so I thought I would reintroduce myself for those who don't know me.

Long story short, my husband and I separated, and I haven't had custody of our yorkie, Kandi, in a little over 3 years. I now have her back. Yeah!! I am elated and devastated at the same time. I made the difficult choice to let her stay with my ex because no matter our problems, I was sure he would take care of her. I continued to pay all vet bills, etc.. Unfortunately, for reasons (some that may have been beyond his control, please don't judge, I am trying not to.) he did NOT take good care of her.

Disregarding the reasons why, she (now ten years old) was returned to me on Thursday with fur so matted, it looked like one big mat, she has LP in one leg, and has major dental issues. She has been on a diet of only human food, and her potty training was almost completely neglected.

Those issues have all been addressed or are being addressed. She was very carefully, gently, and professionally groomed (almost shaved), but the little growths that come with age were irritated to the point that some were bleeding. She is still very sweet, affectionate and loving. She obviously recognized me and seems very happy to be back with me. She is now on good quality food for small, senior dogs (small bits and dry) which she really seems to like. She is not begging for human food. She is on pain meds for her knee and ligaments that also reduces swelling. The vet thinks she may need surgery, but he wants to wait for her to settle with me and reevaluate her. Potty retraining is going very well. She is simply a trooper. I am so proud of her. She is in a crate when I can't be there to supervise to keep her from jumping, etc... and to help with potty retraining.

But, she's home. And she's mine again. I am truly thankful. Be prepared for questions, but right now we are just getting settled back with each other again. I have missed you all. (Photos will come when her hair grows out a little.):aimeeyork

So glad that you have been reunited with your sweet girl! She is lucky that she will be able to spend her remaining years in a loving home which provides her with everything that she needs.

A sad story with a happy ending. It's wonderful that Kandi is back with you and getting the proper care she so deserves. Bless you for getting this little girl back on track.

Sorry about the circumstances that separated you, but thrilled she is getting the TLC she deserves. . . . This is like an early Christmas for you both. :D

So great to see you again :)! I'm so sorry that Kandi was neglected by your ex, I'm sure that brought a ton of emotions for you. Thankfully, the little sweetheart is back in your loving arms and she will be treasured for always now :love:!

Hi Judy, you've been missed!!! Kandi is going to know nothing but love from here on...Please give her some love from Winston and I. Keep in touch, I still drop in here daily...may not post as much as I did but I'm still hanging around. So good to "see" you again!!!

Oh, and man did I ever forget how stubborn this little lady is. She will absolutely NOT go poop outside tonight since a cold front came through today. It's cold and wet, and she looks at me like, "I'll hold it." LOL

So, we go out and walk every 30 minutes, and nada. Her crate was clean when I came home. After 6 days of a perfect schedule, a little rain and cold, and we are in our first power struggle since she's been home.

I guess we keep taking walks. It's looking like a long night. But, at least she still has some fiesty left. :)

It's worh a sleepless night.

lol, I can just see you walking her and her saying she's had enough of this. Winston has started just sitting down when he's done and of course I go pick him up and carry him back to the house. They seem to get smarter with age, Winston's a few months shy of 15. But he's good about going potty, we do struggle some days with eating, today was one of those...he did finally eat a few bites. Ah well, what we do for love!!!

And I have come in during that time! Lol. I'm very new, several months. I'm also new to the Yorkie experience. It's good that you came back.

Poor lil baby. I'm glad she's back and better.
I could be better in my care of wee Freya, but I'm not that bad. I'm gonna get her a puppy cut, make it much easier.

I am sure you are great. It's nice to meet you. :) In no way am I saying I was a perfect yorkie parent. Don't get me wrong. I made a LOT of mistakes. It's how we learn. You do better when you know better.

I'm so glad you are back Judy! All you need is the love of a yorkie and you have your precious Kandi home with you. Every bit of time spent is a blessing with our dogs. I have a t shirt that says Dogs make life's journey better! So true. My prayers for you to be happy healthy and surrounded by the love of a dog and friends. Love you Judy!
