Happy to hear that Finley is home ad things are going well. Nothing like a new baby to brighten ones days and lift their spirits. |

I got my first Yorkie (Teddy) in 1998. He was a perfect little guy. Topped out at 6lbs. He was laid back, loved people, loved to travel with us. He was easy to train--just wanted to please. Loved to play and chase a ball outside. He would bring the ball back to me and wait for me to throw it again. Loved to play and I loved playing outside with him. He passed away in 2013. I was absolutely devastated and stated that I would NEVER get another Yorkie. Well, guess what? I got Gidget in March 2016. When I decided to get another Yorkie, I knew I wouldn't get another male. I wanted another dog but not a replacement for Teddy. He has a place in my heart that can't be filled by another furbaby. So, I got a female. Gidget is the love of my life, goes with me everywhere and is my ESA. But, she's nothing like Teddy. A completely different personality. She doesn't like to chase balls. She can't understand the purpose of chasing a ball. She can be a little stubborn at times and acts like a little 5lb Diva. She's in my lap right now and will stay here until I decide to get up. She's so special and she already has a place in my heart but it's her OWN place. If I had gotten another male I'm afraid I would always be comparing him to Teddy. There is no way I can even think about comparing Teddy and Gidget. Two different personalities but two very special Yorkies. |
Chester is 9 lbs and he is a big love bug, he is almost 16 and got heart failure last Christmas and is doing well. I was wondering if you looked at rescue groups |
Some asked for pictures. I tried. I put it in Gew album, The Wright Pack. The first picture is my new boy Finley. The second is Max, my seven year old rescue. The upside down collie is my late, beloved Jamison. I somehow can’t get any more pictures to upload. Audrey is waiting..... so is Paige. Boy, I feel guilty with none of Paige or Audrey. Gew |
Aww. Finley is just precious. Thank you for sharing the pictures. --KatysMom |
Finley is just adorable, such bright eyes :) |
His eyes reflect deep into his soul, just as Jami’s did. Finley is a blue Merle and Jami is a sable Merle, but these half brothers are so special in so many of the same ways. Thanks. Gew |
Silky terrier Maybe the larger yorkie you think is a yorkie is really a silky. My vet says they look like a yorkie but bigger. |

Before I knew any better I went to a breeder and paid MORE money for the runt of the litter so I knew I would have a tiny Yorkie..... Guinness however was up to 18lbs but sadly we are having tons of health issues so he is down to 16lbs which is still on the large size and I would not trade him for the world even if he is costing us a fortune and tons of sleepless scared nights. |

I saw a youtube vid, a woman has a 23 or so lb yorkie. Makes the 16.5 muscle man yorkie(rest his sweet soul) I had look like a shrimp. I remember reading somewhere they were originally breed to be about 15 lbs. |
Doesn’t their height and length have anything to do with their weight? These are my first yorkies so I really don’t know. I’m worried about the doctor wanting mine to be too thin. Gew |

Jackson is a bigger boy at 18/19lbs give or take. I try to keep him lean if I can. I got him DNA tested and he came back 100% pure Yorkie. Just goes to show you what happens when "breeders" aren't paying attention to breed standards etc. |
Length n height have some impact on weight. But some dogs are naturally slender, with a greyhound-type look. I have a Maltese (purebred-btw) who is tall & weighs 9 lbs. I had a silky who was much smaller/shorter but weighed 1/2 a pound more. He simply has a higher muscle ratio. A cat that looks bigger than my late Maltese, but both weigh 5 lbs.(Sorry, weighed in the case of the dog.) Again, muscle mass is deceptively small looking. My Tibetan ter. is thin according what I have read... But everything has variences. |
