Yorkie Breeder Has anyone heard of hollingberry yorkies |
Just by glancing at the first page of their website I would say do not by from this breeder because they are not reputable. They use the word teacup which no reputable breeder does. They also breed a female under 5 pounds which is very dangerous and shows no concern for the female at all. |
very true thanks |
Personal opinion here: i onlumbuy from breeders whoa are vpbreeding to improve the breed and follow, breed standards. I do not by from anyone who does not show Yorkies and do all the DNA testimg etc. Learned from my first Yorkie who had health issues. Current Yorkie is quite small but remarkable bred and healthy! |
Buying from a breeder that shows their dogs breeds for their next champion, so all genetic / DNA testing is done. The momma dog is fed quality food to ensure strong healthy puppies. You can be assured of getting a healthy puppy, not a dog qualified to be shown due to not meeting show standards, these puppies are then sold as pets only. Better to look for a breeder that shows their dogs, that does not mean you will pay more money for that puppy, it means you will have a healthy well temperament baby. Isn't that what we all want. Good luck on your quest. |
I’m going to probably get bashed for this but I’m not necessarily a fan of dog shows and think there can be a great breeder that does all the right things without showing. Dog showing has done terrible things to many breeds and there are standards that have just destroyed once healthy dogs. Look at German Sheppard’s for instance a show winning one can hardly walk. Look how the standard has changed many breeds where they can hardly not breath. They are also the reason we cut dogs tails off and crop ears. |
Can you recommend then a reputable breeder |

I guess that was the point I was trying to get across. These showing/breeders have “pet quality” dogs usually with each litter, but they are breeding for healthy and Yorkie standards. Those folks put a lot of time into, producing the “perfect Yorkie and it shows. The difference between my first Yorkie, which I dearly loved, and my curren little girl is significant. She is so healthy, has a coat that is easier to take care of and came to me already socialized. The Service Dog school she went to siamthey wanted more dogs from that breeder any day because Cali was so ready in many ways. I wish for healthy and well bred Yorkies for everyone! |

You are correct in some of what you say. But in the Yorkie breeding the damage has been done by bakcyanrd and unethical breeders not show people. You should attend a YTCA meeting sometime to hear about all the efforts that they are working on for healthier dogs and improving with each litter. I am sure there are some sucky breeders, but for the most part YTCA is seeing to fit that we don’t have deformed, can’t walk pups. I am blessed to be around breeders who love their dogs and love the breed above all. And they take very good care of their dogs. |
I am only familiar with some great breeders in the area I live in. I would recommend that you go to the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America webpage and look on the breeders page. The show folks alway have some pet Yorkies so you won’t be paying for a show dog, but you will get a pup that has a lot of thought and energy put forth the breed the best Yorkie possible. If you are interested in a recommendation for some great breeders in my area just PM me or drjkr@me.com. Best of luck with your search! |

I know someone who got a puppy from Claudia Pierro of Castleford Yorkshire Terriers and Maltese located in New Jersey. This was at least six years ago, or so, therefore I am not sure if she is still breeding/showing. Her website is: Castleford Yorkshire Terriers & Maltese: Hobby Breeder, Claudia Pierro I have also heard good things about Susan Hertz of "Let's Talk Yorkie." Her website is: AKC Yorkie breeder NY | Yorkshire Terrier breeder | Yorkie puppies for sale NY. I believe she is located out on Long Island. Good luck. Quote:

Just because a breeder shows doesn't make them good and/or ethical. It takes doing a lot of research to find them as they are far and few between. But, finding that good ethical show breeder who is willing to trust you with one of their pups is well worth the time and $$. Go to shows, ask around, watch them in the show ring and how they treat their dogs and the other exhibitors. A lot of a breeder's character is displayed in the ring. Good luck!!!!! One last thought - when you start talking with a breeder don't be afraid to ask questions and have a list ready so you won't forget to ask the important ones. Genetic testing, knees and eyes certified, screening for liver shunt and other major faults known to common in yorkies, etc. Unless a breeder is trying to hide something they gladly talk to you, and educate you if they perceive that you are genuinely trying to learn. |
Thanks for this info I will keep all of this in mind and try and visit some dog shows - that definitely should be worth it |
