Yorkie not changing color Anyone have a Yorkie that did not change color as an adult? I have a Yorkie puppy that I picked up in April she was 12 weeks old, she is now 5 months old and her color hasn't changed one bit. Her Dad was very dark but her mom was standard color. Just curious on how common this was. |
She can still change color. They say up until 2 years. My oldest has changed colors her whole life. |
I had two yorkies, coats remained pure black all their lives, one had auburn hair on head, face and legs, the other had blonde face, head and legs. Two were traditional color, steel grey and tan, my adopted boy head, face, legs are tan, body keeps changing colors from grey to salt and pepper, he is 7 years old. |
I love the yorkies who hold their puppy color. My now passed Ozzie kept a lot of his black, with only a slight bit of steel underneath. His head, like Mateses's little one, was a red/golden color. My current pup, Gus, is two and a half now. His head and face are more tan than his puppy black markings, but his back is still solid black. He is a cotton coat, and when trimmed into a puppy cut, he looks like a baby. Unfortunately, he needs to be watched like a baby too...he is a real scamp, and constantly on the prowl for trouble! |

Fabian is nearly 18 months and continues to change colors. We've been photographing him constantly since we brought him home at 13 weeks, so here's a nearly day-to-day of how subtle the changes can be https://www.instagram.com/gooddogfabian/?hl=en |

Is there a chance she may keep her puppy coloring? My other two fur babies were breaking color on their heads by now. Does anyone have a baby that did keep puppy color? |
Winston's body color is still pretty dark (black) as was my first Yorkies. They both had full coats, wonder if not cutting them short makes a difference. They both have/had light colored face, legs... Oh forgot to mention Spencer was almost 12 years old when he passed away and Winston is now 14 years old...don't think his color's going to change now. lol |
Neither Max or Sasha changed colors much. Their face grew lighter but their bodies stayed mostly black. Max just turned 5 and I can see a small sprinkling of lighter hair on his body but you have to look for them |
I am so happy to see this. Penny never changed color and she is going on 5 years old. All she has is a little silver near her tail |
Emma’s breeders line the yorkies were dark and took 2.5 years or so to notice a true difference in the coloring . Emma is 4.5 and still pretty dark. I agree with others that you may see a continual change throughout the lifetime. I wouldn’t worry . |
Funny, mine did too. He head was sliver/platinum for close to three years, then it changed to more of a champagne/golden color. Quote:
