Meet Freya Meet Freya, my new fur baby. I guess she's a teacup or mini. I got her three weeks ago and she'll be six months old on June 10th. I guess I have a couple three questions. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=3&theater One: my neighbor saw her and said she was a teacup silky terrier. I don't think so, but I'd like opinions! B: Any suggestions for small comb or brush for her lil face? And 3: She doesn't bark and won't play with tennis balls. Is this normal? Thanks! |

Hi FreyasDaddy, Freya is so cute. Happy, happy for you both. Yorkies have a square, compact body, whereas Silkies are ever so slightly larger and have longer, more rectangular bodies. Freya looked like a yorkie to me. |
Hello and welcome. She looks like a yorkie to me not a silky. There actually is no such thing as a mini or teacup Yorkies are just Yorkies. She might just not like balls and would prefer softer toys. |
Welcome to YT :)! I would go to this page and scroll down -- get either the 6" Ringside Comb or the 4.5" Mustache Comb -- this type of comb is what almost all of us use here. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that there is actually no such thing as a teacup or mini in the yorkie standard -- the yorkie standard is merely that any purebred yorkie should be 7lbs or less. No teacup or mini in the standard at all. Those 2 terms are only used by unethical breeders who using them as marketing terms either to draw you in - or, to get you to pay more for their "special teacup yorkies". The Yorkshire Terrier Breed Club (The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America) considers these terms extremely damaging to the breed bc many unethical breeders breed FOR tinies, which is actually not a healthy practice for these poor dogs. Best of luck w/ your little one and CONGRATS! |
Hey Freya, so adorable... omg. My diva never played with tennis balls they are to big for her mouth. She plays with the little cat toy stuff animal. |
I always think it’s funny seeing the “teacup” or “mini” descriptions corrected, and everyone get so upset about the terms.... However, the term “teapot” is found endearing. Just saying. :) Anyways your pup is soooooo cute. 😍😍 |
Your baby looks like a yorkie to me Teapot is a term we only use on YT sorta a joke, but never describe our over sized yorkies to people who ask "what breed" is your dog as a teapot lol. All my yorkies have been way over the standard 7 pound weight, they were from 9 pounds to a whopping 17 pounds. My adopted kid is 12 pounds, when asked I just say he's over standard size yorkie. |

Forgot to add, when I first adopted my kid he was 2 1/2 years old and did not pay with any balls what so ever. We are a team 4 years now, and he plays with balls now, but won't touch a tennis ball could be the covering on them. Try a regular ball, a smaller ball if your pup is tiny. |

Once most folks realize the term mostly conjures up/encourages awful, harmful practices, they are happy to let it go. |
2 Attachment(s) My late senior played with balls for a few weeks when she was a tiny tot. At that time, an older yorkie was staying with us. Katy seemed mostly interested in keeping the ball away from the older dog--who of course wanted nothing to do with the young pup. I'm now a wanna-be yorkie pet parent, hoping for pitter patter of paws in a few months. Ever hopeful the new baby will want to play, have picked up a couple--one says it is bacon flavored: Attachment 412523 Attachment 412524 |

LOL! For some strange reason one day I taught Sasha to pull the kitchen towel that hangs on the stove handle down. It took about 3 cheerios and 2 minutes to teach her that one. Now we can't hang the towel on the stove anymore because she immediately grabs it and pulls it down and then looks at us for a cheerio! |

Exactly! Every time we walk in the kitchen and find the towel on the floor I get the evil eye from Toni! |
I got my Gidget when she was 7 weeks old. Now realize that was too soon. She has never played a lot with anything. She has one small ball she plays with when she decides to play and one stuffed animal that she will seek out. Now realize that she never had an opportunity to learn how to play from her siblings. She's perfect for me. Her favorite pass time is sitting in my lap and taking naps. She's happy and healthy and I'm happy to have her. What more do I need. |

Welcome to YT! I will tell you I learned so much here and really learned to be a better yorkie parent from the generous and knowledgeable folks here! |
I hope to! I'm a new parent and have a lot to learn! I know there's not a "teacup" lol and I wasn't looking for one. I was desperately looking for a female, and my brother--who breeds dogs--and his wife just couldn't find one. But their neighbor/ladylady had a five month old female that was tracking to be too small to breed, so she was sold to me. Now I hear she was tracking to be too small for the male the woman had, so I don't know! I don't know what she'll weigh at full size. Btw, any advice on top knots? Her hair just isn't long enough right now. She turned six months old on the 10th. So how long will it take? |
just wanted to show this I've done one drawing with Freya in it, plus the cartoon Yorkie I created before Freya came along. https://theskaldofnvrwinter.devianta...ry-1-746317177 |

Lol, I think I found out how to do the reply thing to a specific message. Freya doesn't seem to be a big chewer. She just likes to steal em and mildly chew, although I haven't let her get at them for very long. OH...and she likes ZIPPERS lol. |

Yorkies are very mischievous lil critters, if they're not in your sight they are off making mischief lol. Welcome to the world of being owned by a yorkie ;) |
