Boy Verses Girl Hi Everyone. I am looking for a companion again. I have been told that it's better to adopt another breed or at least a different sex from your previous dog. I lost my Yorkie Brooklynne in January. I know I'm still grieving but, at the same time, I miss the companionship. I have been looking for the past few weeks for a rescue Yorkie and 5lbs. or less (because of a disability.) I want to be prepared and not surprised so I'd like to know if there are differences between boys and girls. And please don't say a penis. This much I know. |
I have always had females raised from puppies. After my 17 year old girl went to rainbow bridge my vet gifted me a 2 1/2 year old male yorkie. Many members have said males are more affectionate then females. Having had a pack of 3 females all 3 years apart they had each other but, they still cuddled up with me, and all 3 were my shadow. However, I do have to agree that my boy is a momma's boy. In the heat of summer this lil guy is pressed into my thigh when I'm sitting on the sofa, he sleeps under the blankets next to me and he loves cuddling. |
It depends more on the dog more then whether it’s a boy or girl. I would check out the personality of both until you find one that suits you. |
I like boy dogs better. I can't pinpoint it or explain it per say. I just do. I know some people who are this way with girl dogs, they just prefer them. I guess I find the girls more "what's in it for me?" and the boys more willing to please you, if that makes sense. Butttt, that's not a solid fact by any means. Just my observations. |
Thank you for responding. Your imput is important. You are now the fourth person to tell me boys are more affectionate than girls. I find it fascinating. I have found and applied for a rescued yorkie. He's just 4 years old. Small rescued yorkies are few and thats a good thing. It also means a lot of people apparently apply when a little one becomes available. Whenever it happens, I'm so looking forward to having a little companion again. Thanks for responding. |
Boys are more protective. The girls loves to cuddle more. For some odd reason, I find my boy more obedient or submissive. He always looks at me first several times to see if he can do a certain thing. My girl just doesn't even care, she'll do want she want. I have to tell her, "No no" at a certain time. |
I have always been more of a girl dog person. Never thought I would have a boy then Joey popped up needing to be rehomed at 9 weeks and already had 2 homes. He is by far the most cuddly one but he can also be more possessive of me when his little sister Penny wants to be close also. Joey can be just as stubborn as the girls and even gets called a Diva sometimes. Callie knows my every little thing if I’m having anxiety or a bad depression time or extremly sad she will absolutely not leave my side she also knows more English then I think any dog I ever known has. She is extremly smart but in more ways then like tricks. Penny likes to cuddle a lot like her brother but is more independent. I really think it all depends on personality more then sex. |
I had a male (Teddy) who passed at 14. I now have my little Gidget. I got a female because I didn't want to "replace" Teddy but just get another Yorkie. Teddy was more protective of me and Gidget is more of a cuddle bug. Each have their own personalities. Wouldn't trade Gidget for another male even though I enjoyed Teddy so much. I had him for 14 years and Gidget just turned 2 in January. Too early to make any kind of comparison. Just love her to the moon and back. |
