Quivering I put him inside my jacket to keep him warm to go for a walk but he quivers the entire time. I am confident he isn’t cold. He is 9 weeks old. Should I continue? |
He's very young; just a baby-baby; he's probably quivering because he's frightened. Right now, your living room is intimidating for him. He's simply overwhelmed and brand new in the world. Take things slowly and remain patient and understanding. He really should not be out and about until he is fully inoculated (parvo, etc) as he's extremely susceptible to life-threatening diseases at 9 weeks. |
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is another possibility for a puppy that young. It's treated by rubbing a little Karo (corn syrup) or Nutrical on the gums. Best to have this checked out by a vet ASAP. Puppies with hypoglycemia can go downhill quickly. |

At his extremely young and vulnerable age, he should actually *still* be with his Mama and littermates. Yorkies should actually not be taken from their Mama until at least 12 weeks old. Remember, this tender little being has only been *living* for a mere 9 weeks -- and for his little entire life, he was warm and cozy with his Mama and littermates. It's very, very traumatizing and scary to suddenly be pulled from that life - and thrust into a new home. Go slow, keep him cozy, and remember that everything is very big and new and scary to him right now. :) |
I would lean towards keeping him at home for now. He doesn't need the walks yet... let him settle in first and get comfortable with his new home and with you. |
Thanks fir the most valuable advice. I have another question i wiuld appreviate advice on. >>> He likes to play rough with me and likes to bite my fingers when we play. I have been told by 1 dog trainer not to let him bite my fingers. Another “dog expert” suggested i wear a pair of leather gloves when playing with him so he relates the gloves with being allowed to bite. What should i do? |
When he starts biting your finger, remove your hand and in a firm voice say no biting, and quickly give him one of HIS toys to bite on. This has to be done fast, remove hand, say no biting and give him a toy all in one swift moment .Some members suggest saying OUCH in loud tone then give the toy. What worked for me was the command word of no biting. Rubber toys are good for biting. He is teething at this stage and those teeth are razor sharp so hard rubber toys are good. Be careful of the toys you buy, the squeaker should not be visible, that is the first thing they go for, they will remove the squeaker which can be swallowed. I don't know about the gloves, I personally would not use gloves as a indication when gloves are on biting is ok, my concern would be when winter comes and you put on your gloves the dog will think it's game on and go for your gloved hand. Same with visitors entering your home, if they have gloves on he will go for them also. |
Thanks Matese I will give that a try but I do love our biting games aa much as he does 😀 |
