She Wont Stop Biting!! ME!!!! She knaws on my hands and arms and fingers CONSTANTLY! I try to say NO or OUCH and redirect her to a toy- but it doesnt work- she goes right back to biting me...and it HURTS!!! after a while any suggestions? :rolleyes: |
well you have to stop this right now. How old is she? This is typical puppy behavior but YOU are the Pack Leader and Pack Leaders are not knawed on. What do you have for her to chew on? I use bully sticks and raw hides under my supervision. I only let her have the raw hide if I am right there and I never let her swallow any. Have you turned her over on her back and gotten in her face - said NO or growl at her? There are many ways to deter this behavior but do it now. |

I have to agree, you need to do something to stop this. My boyfriend used to let Smudger chew on his fingers and then he would shout at him when he wouldn't stop or if he did it when he hadn't allowed him to (if that makes any sense :confused: ) I don't have any advice really as I just point at Smudger and say NO very loudly and put a toy to chew in his mouth and that always works for us. I know he's teething but I can't help worrying that one day he will bite one of ours nephews or one of my cousins :eek: :( I hope someones able to offer you some advice :) |
Teddy does this, if I reach down and feel teeth, I know it's teddy. I worked on him when he was little, but the 3 men in my house let him, and it makes it difficult. If I pick him up he won't do it. When he was little, I would lay him down and hold his mouth shut, it seemed to make him stop. All members of the household have to stop playing with them when they bite or it's hard. Trina did this a little as a pup, but I did get her to stop, at least. |
Bitter Apple Spray, or a new spray that's out there called Bitter Yuck (Bitter Apple is alcohol based and Bitter Yuck isn't so you can spray it even on bandages and sores) The toy trick always worked with Tigger. Tried the spray and decided that the toy trick was working. So....what I'm saying is each dog is different and reacts to individual things differently. Best of Luck. :) |
Hayley was bad for this too esp when she got sleepy she would get in my lap and want to knawl on my hands till she was off to sleep. I gave her a toy to chew when she was sleepy and that worked. Then the times that she would to it just for the heck of it I would lightly grasp her muzzel and look her in the eyes and say NO! Now she still trys me but most of the time a I can say NO BITE! and she quits without holding her muzzel shut, but sometimes I still have too, it gets better just be loving and persisitant they are babies and have to learn, good luck!! |
All puppies bit a lot - and YES - it hurts! Mine would love to chew on me. I just do everything possible to keep that from happening. I give him toys - feed him - put my shoes on - wear long sleeved sweat shirts - play tug of war for a while - cover myself with a blanket - put him on the floor - put him in a confined area ----- and tell him "No no no no" every time he does it. If he's biting me - I just don't let it continue. It hurts and it's definitely no fun for me. I even used to hand him to my daughter and say, "Here! Let him bite you for a while." (Joke!) He's five months old now, and I think he is beginng to do less biting. Part of it is that he's older and becoming interested in a lot of other things beside me. I have never had a puppy that didn't do the same thing. And - they do all outgrow it. Carol Jean |
We would spray bitter apple on our hands and feet. Another thing we would do is yelp like a dog would when Chachi would bite. They outgrow that stage of having to bite all the time so that something to look forward to. |

nipping Try this-get an old sheet or scarf and tie knots in it and play tug this way all her energy is on the scarf and not on you.My Peanut is 5months and still nipping.I hope this stops soon. |
How long WILL this go on?? Let's post all nibbler's ages so that we can get some kind of handle on when we can see some relief. Wosie is 7 months old, and she still does it. Granted, she does NOT do it half as much as she used to at 4 months, but it sure is getting old... I got really serious with her tonight. I really want to get her to stop this comletely. I know persistence is the key, I am just sick of it. She doesn't break the skin, and it doesn't really hurt so much, but it is annoying. She's MOUTHY. It's like her fingertips are in her tongue and teeth, and she needs to feel the texture of my skin to let me know she loves me. Dang... So anyways, let me hear of an older pup who is still doing play biting. :eek: |
The sad part is that she IS breaking skin- not terribly, but she IS and it HURTS! I have tried to hold her muzzle- redirect with toys- say NO and OUCH firmly-praise her for stopping- ughhhhhhhhhh im dying here |
