Dog urine cleaner??? My yorkie is lifting his leg in the house and I clean the area and he still does it. I thought that perhaps I am not using a good cleaner (just a household cleaner). Also, he has gone many times in the same spot that there is a yellow stain that I can't get rid of. Therefore, I am trying to find a really good dog urine cleaner and stain remover for white tiles. I read that I should get an enzymatic cleaner of some sort but wanted to find out what others have used and has worked well to remove the smell and stain so the dog won't keep going in the same spot and re-marking. |
Nature's Miracle I have not used it, but several members advised it worked for them. Removes stains and odor. A regular household cleanser will not get rid of urine odor, even if you can't smell it dogs can and will keep going back to that area. You may want to consider using a belly band if you are home to make sure it's changed when its wet, you don't want your pup ending up with a rash from urine like human baby diaper rash. Has your boy been neutered. |
Thanks for the response. I do use a belly band but not all day. So he marks when he is not with the bellyband. Also, he is neutered, I guess he's the odd case where neutering does not fix the marking. |
Neutering is not a guarantee a dog will not mark. Usually if the pup is neutered at a young age (8 months old) before leg hiking becomes a habit it usually works, but still not a guarantee. |
Unfortunately they can be stubborn little creatures. If I leave the apt and don't take Gidget with me, she leaves her mark at the door. I find the spot when I open the door. That's the only time she doesn't use her pee pad or go outside. Sigh, still love her dearly! |
Same thing with Bella. If I leave the apartment to go do laundry or throw out the garbage she will mark at the front door. Thumper lifts his leg therefore he misses the pee pad half the time. I use Nature's Miracle floor cleaner and I don't find it eliminates the odor as he goes back to the same spot on the pee pad and will only get the edge of the pad. |

Though I can almost guarantee that once they start hiking, they will continue to do so. It's in their nature and part of who they are. You just have to learn to embrace it. :D I use Nature's Miracle to clean up after accidents, it's supposed to remove the enzymes that normal household cleaners don't. But best thing to do is prevention. If he likes that same spot, make sure he doesn't have access to it. And perhaps limit the space he can access when you can't monitor him. I'm curious why you don't leave the belly band on all day? Does he use an indoor potty pad? |
thank you canana. That is my last resort to keep him in the belly band all day but he does do well on the wee wee pad. I put two of my old sneakers next to an area where he use to mark and he has not gone back to mark that sport. Perhaps because the sneakers are blocking him. I will continue to monitor him, but mostly on the weekend I do leave him in the belly band. |
