Working with animals when you have allergies? I have been looking into going back to college to pursue my dream career as a pet groomer, however I believe I may be allergic to some dogs as my mother's chihuahua makes my nose itch after petting it when I visit. I have read that this career is off limits as "mild pet allergies will become severe allergies." Does anyone know if this is true? I fear having to give up my beloved yorkie if it truly does worsen my allergies |
You can always go to an allergist and get tested. If you are allergic you can start shots that have what your allergic to in them to slowly make your immune system stop reacting to your allergies. |
Have you tried taking a Benadryl about 45mins prior to interacting with dogs? |
I know how you feel. I absolutely love animals and all dogs. But my allergies are so bad, I could never do it. Even with Yorkies...I had to adjust to it and they're somewhat hypoallergenic. |
My son is very allergic to our cats, he finds keeping his hands away from his face and washing his hands immediately after playing with them helps a lot I hope this helps you too. He also takes Benadryl.:animal-pa |
