Organizing toys? I was wondering where everyone keeps their dog's toys to avoid them being spread messing throughout the house? I have tried a basket but my dogs are too timid to fish into one. |
I keep some of Piper's toys in smallish box in bedroom, so she can "sneak" one out and race into living room where I try to take it. Others I set on top of her soft-sided crate, which is out of the way, but she can readily access. And since she likes covert operations, I keep a toy in my open purse that she can tug out and surprise me with...Funny thing is, Pipe doesn't like toys or playing all that much, so stuff strewn about isn't an issue. |
I used to use baskets from Walmart that were cut low in the front but then my dad build be some similar. That’s what I use in the living room. There is one for balls, one for chews and one for all the other toys. In the craft room and my office I bought these things that look similar to a wooden trash can with a hinged lid and there is cut out at the bottom for them to pull toys out. You can you treats to get them used to the toy bins although mine have never had any issues. |
Emma has canvas box with the little doggie cut out in our living room . She’s been timid to go in as well but when she wants something she does go get it . I will also say that she doesn’t like the box cluttered so I’ve had to purge toys that she doesn’t play with and that helped the frequency . |
I use very short acrylic trays - like you'd really use for food or decorative items -- bc all baskets are generally just too tall for my littles. |

3 Attachment(s) The first two are the ones my dad built and the third one is one I bought from Walmart. Pardon Joey's slightly open mouth he was fussing at me to throw his toy. |
2 Attachment(s) We have a cloth basket for Deuce's toys. He loves to root around in it and pick just the right one for playtime. Sometimes he just dumps the whole thing over or noses the basket around before selecting his victim. I change out the seasonal toys and he tends to like having some new ones around for variety. Deuce plays everyday from about 3 pm until we feed him - around 5pm. He is like clockwork. I swear he can tell time. Sometimes he just likes to steal a sock so we chase him around the house just for fun. |

Duchess doesn't really play with toys. She thinks the cat is her toy so she literally treats the cat like a toy:p:p:p. To her the cat is a wind up toy that keeps on going and going and going and going. My cat is still young so she loves to play. However, she won't play with toys, she digs in the trashcans and finds her own toys. Her favorite "toy". those dental flosss stick thingys I use to floss my teeth. I find those damn things all over the house. Chloe's other favorite toys is peices of paper that she also pulls out of the trash. If she can't find anything in the trash she walks around looking for anything to play with, even dust bunnies...... I am constantly walking around picking up trash because Chloe thinks the trash is her toys. The sad, part she won't play with any of the toys I buy her. A ball of aluminium foil is her favorite but she always picks it apart and of course there's always a little trail of aluminium foil all over the house......:(:(:( |

Be careful with aluminum foil. We had a mixed dog when I was young. That dog would eat anything, steak bones, chicken bones, whatever she could steal when you weren't looking was devoured. When she was about 16 she got into the garbage and ate old leftovers that were thrown out wrapped in aluminum. The aluminum blocked her bowels and we lost her. Aluminum does not digest so don't let the little ones eat it. |

Thankfully plain aluminum has no flavor. Unfortunately for us the aluminum was wrapped around food and she did what she had done for 16 years. Amazing how you buy toys for them and they play with a household item instead. Kinda like buying kids expensive toys and they have more fun with the box it came in! |
I've been keeping Ollie's toy in a bin made from fabric. I keep it in a cup board and let him pick a few toys out of it as he gets board with those I put them in the cupboard. That way he rotates through his toys. |
Fabian has two baskets: one on each floor that we use with him. Forget about organization: he loves all his toys and leaves them strewn everywhere. He has us trained very well to pick them up for him each night for him. |
