How can I get my yorkie to stop barking at dogs and people? He is 7-8 months and will bark forever on walks at dogs and people. |
My shimmer had the same problem. The ultrasonic bark control device didn’t even phase her. Someone told me about a can of marbles... nope. I considered a shock collar (worked great on my 14 year old pit/lab mix after the police came to visit me with a complaint — apparently, she only barked non-stop when I was away) but I couldn’t find anything small enough for a 5lb dog.—-I found a website recently that did carry them, but I didn’t save it. I did find pet corrector. It’s a can of hair. It doesn’t make a loud sound, but Shimmer HATES it! (You blow the air for the sound; do NOT spray it at your dog!) The hard part is getting the timing right in the correction since no one is going to carry a can around all day. Both of my dogs responded well when I taught them to bark on command. And then taught a quiet command. I socialize her when I can so that she doesn’t feel threatened. She only gets to greet dogs if she stops barking. Frequently, though, I just have to pick her up around strange people and dogs to keep her quiet. She’s better, but not perfect. |

1 Attachment(s) Wish I knew! Piper barks at arriving visitors, will eventually settle down, but when guest is leaving, Piper barks at 'em like they're stealing the family silver (like there is any). I mean, really? Coming and going? What the heck is that all about?! Piper, ready to get her bark on... |
