Anyone with a Yorkie and a new baby? I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how to deal with my Yorkie and the new baby. I have a 1 1/2 year old Yorkie who is getting calmer but has a ways to go. I am expecting our first baby at the end of June. My Yorkie (Maggie) has been around other babies before and all she wants to do is lick them! Any advice would be great! |
Lucky was about 4 months old when my daughter was born. He never tried to bother her or anything. We just made sure that he knew from the beginning not to mess w/ her. Just told him no if he tried to lick her face or take a toy. He does great now! My daughter is 7 1/2 months old & they are best friends! :D My daughter is crawling now & she goes over to him and just sits there w/ him & he will bring her his toys! Its so cute! :D I'm sure yours will do fine! You just need to introduce them slowly, like while your at the hospital have your husband come home to check on the dog & bring a baby blanket w/ your childs smell on it & give it to the dog. That way when you bring the baby home the dog is already familiar w/ the baby. :) |
I think Lucky's Mom is right! My feeling has always been, if you are thinking about it, it will be fine. I worried so about my human 3 year old liking his new brother, but I just made sure I let him play with him whenever he wanted with my close supervision and all was fine. |

As a mother of a 4 year old, a 2 year old, and a 7 month old, I think that I have to agree with Lucky's mom |
