Training treats for 3 months old puppy Can anyone recommend nice training treats for a 3 months old puppy? I've tried three different kinds (blue bits soft moist natural - turkey, a lamb+venison jerkey and plain cheerios), but he has zero interest. He did eat the lamb+venison jerkey on the first day, but no longer takes any. The other two he did not even touch. Oh, I've also tried small pieces of blueberries. He licks them, but doesn't really like them very much. I can't get any training started because he shows zero interest in treats  |
Boil boneless chicken cutlets, preferably warm, give tiny reward amounts. Cheerios is usually a great training treat, lil stinker, see if he can resist yummy warm chicken. If he likes his dog food you can even use that as treats, just tiny amounts. |
hot dogs! Every dog I've trained during the training phase. I've used training treats by Zukes and Cloud Star which work well but the high reward extra praise, HOT DOGS kept attention and dogs actually ate it. |
Aww...he sounds like my Scottie when he was a puppy - picky little one! :p Is he eating his kibble meals though? Everything else is checked out to be good and normal by the vet? I just know with Scottie, it took him a while to become interested in food and treats. For my two, I currently give them dehydrated lamb lung, dehydrated sardines, and freeze-dried Stella & Chewy's meal patties as treats (broken into small pieces of couse). Try to stay away from treats that are heavy in liver. If there's too much liver content, pups have a tendency to get upset stomach due to the high fat content. If for now your baby isn't interested in treats, try just using praise for training (i.e. high pitched "ooooooh good boy!!!"). Or toys. Whichever they are interested in. |
We've used Pet Botanics mini training rewards (beef flavor) because they are low in calories, as well as healthy. Other things Bella likes include thawed frozen peas (her favorite--she goes crazy for those) and small pieces of fresh apple with the skin removed. |
Freeze dried liver, they come in pails at Petco and Petsmart. |
